Severide’s Chicago Fire Season 13 Update Shows His Marriage to Kidd Is Still in Danger
Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd have been on the brink of breaking up for a few seasons, but Chicago Fire season 13 could be when it finally falls apart. piece by piece. The NBC procedural drama, created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, has featured a number of relationships over the course of its 13 upcoming seasons and over 250 episodes. Not many couples have lasted long on Chicago Fire, and sadly, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before Severide and Stella join the breakup club.

As fans will recall, Severide and Stella’s romantic sparks were immediately ignited when Miranda Rae Mayo joined the Chicago Fire cast in season 4. Their relationship was rocky for a while, but Severide and Stella eventually found their rhythm and got married in season 10. Unfortunately, after the couple’s wedding, Severide’s strange and annoying behavior began to take a toll on their relationship. While Severide and Stella remained together in Chicago Fire season 13, it seemed like their problems would only continue. Severide got the chance to attend the Bureau of Fire Investigation (OFI) training camp in Chicago Fire season 11, and that seemed to be the beginning of the end. Taylor Kinney’s character left Chicago to join the show, and unbeknownst to Stella, he extended his leave of absence when he was asked to participate in an ATF investigation. Severide never informed his wife about his actions, which led to some friction between the two. Thankfully, Severide eventually returned in Chicago Fire season 12 after Stella brought him home. However, his obsession with OFI continued, and Severide and Stella’s marriage suffered because of it. Severide promised Stella that he would change and make her a priority, which is how they were able to temporarily mend their marriage in season 12. While they remain on good terms, Severide’s revelation in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale may have taken the couple back a few steps. Severide wants to start a family, which took Stella by surprise. She didn’t have the best reaction to Severide’s proposal, but it’s possible she was just shocked (or just didn’t see eye to eye with her husband). So having kids could be an issue heading into season 13, along with Severide’s ongoing OFI obsession.

While speaking with TVLine, showrunner Andrea Newman teased Severide’s story arc in Chicago Fire season 13. Unfortunately, her comments brought bad news for Severide’s relationship with Stella. When asked why Severide wasn’t promoted at Firehouse 51 while other characters were, Newman said, “He’s focused on what he’s obsessed with, which is arson and OFI, besides the team, which he loves. The higher you go, the more politics you have, and Severide’s not interested in that. He’s a hands-on guy. So arson is still at the forefront of his mind, the possibility of moving to OFI is always at the forefront of his mind, and all of that comes up. He’s dealing with all of that this season.” Severide tried to stay out of OFI in Chicago Fire season 12, but his passion for investigating arson seems to be taking over his other priorities and duties (including his marriage) heading into season 13. As Newman points out in her interview, Severide is obsessed with arson and OFI. As such, OFI will be a major part of Taylor Kinney’s story in the upcoming episodes. Perhaps season 13 will finally be Severide’s chance to jump ship from Firehouse 51 to OFI (and for Kinney to leave Chicago Fire after years of speculation about his departure).

Based on Andrea Newman’s comments, it’s very possible that Severide will leave Firehouse 51 and Rescue Squad 3 for OFI in Chicago Fire season 13. Severide is obsessed with OFI, and he won’t give up his passion for arson investigation without a fight. Unfortunately, Severide’s persistence may be his undoing (at least in regards to his time on the NBC procedural series). If he isn’t willing to prioritize Firehouse 51 and his wife over OFI in the upcoming episodes, it’s only a matter of time before Severide jumps ship, destroying his marriage in the process.

However, only time will tell whether Severide and Stella will overcome these latest hurdles, or whether Chicago Fire season 13 will be Taylor Kinney’s last.

Fans should be interested in how Severide and Stella’s relationship plays out in season 13. Severide’s love for OFI (which has ruined his marriage in the past), combined with possible disagreements about starting a family, will only end in disaster. However, only time will tell whether Severide and Stella
