Serinda Swan Hints at a Dramatic Comeback to Chicago Fire as Brittany Baker

Kelly Severide, the beloved rescue squad lieutenant on NBC’s Chicago Fire, is now happily engaged to Stella Kidd. However, fans may remember this isn’t Severide’s first trip down the aisle. Back in Season 3, Severide made headlines with his whirlwind Vegas wedding to Brittany Baker, played by Serinda Swan. The duo’s impulsive marriage, sparked at a craps table, burned bright but brief. The couple quickly realized their union was a way to cope with their respective losses, and Brittany left Chicago as swiftly as she arrived.

Despite her short tenure, Brittany remains a memorable figure for fans, and Swan herself is open to the idea of reprising her role to shake things up in Severide’s life.

Serinda Swan Reflects on Joining Chicago Fire

Swan, a veteran of television who currently stars in the CW series Coroner, revealed that her role on Chicago Fire came after persistent invitations from former showrunner Matt Olmstead. Speaking to TVLine, Swan said, “Matt kept asking me to come and guest-star on the show during my offseason from Graceland. I was like, ‘Yeah, I would love to!’”

Initially, producers pitched a series of roles, none of which resonated with the actress. “They’re like, ‘There’s this girl, and she’s trapped,’ but I’m claustrophobic. Then, ‘There’s a woman, and there’s a burning building,’ and I’m super scared of fire,” Swan joked. “Finally, they said, ‘Severide’s love interest,’ and I was like, ‘Yep, let’s do that!’”

The opportunity to work with Taylor Kinney again was also a major draw. Swan fondly recalled Kinney’s standout guest role on Breakout Kings, another project led by Olmstead. “We all were like, ‘Yo, he’s great. Like, really, really good.’ Then Matt brought him over to Chicago Fire, and it’s no surprise he became such a big part of the show.”

Brittany’s Quick Exit and Fan Curiosity

Brittany’s storyline ended abruptly after just four episodes when she left to face her past. Swan’s departure was due to scheduling conflicts as she returned to shoot another season of Graceland. Reflecting on her brief time on the show, Swan said, “I had to exit so fast that not everything was tied up properly. Fans kept messaging me, asking, ‘When do you come back? You’re still married!’”

Even though Severide later clarified in Season 6 that his marriage to Brittany was annulled, fans have continued to speculate about her potential return. Swan remains amused by the lingering interest in her character, even years after her arc ended.

Could Brittany Baker Make a Comeback?

Swan isn’t ruling out a return to Chicago Fire. “People still ask me about it all the time,” she shared. “I’d be down for [Brittany] to just randomly show up one season and mess things up a bit for him again.”

Given Severide’s current engagement to Stella Kidd, a surprise appearance by Brittany could add a layer of unexpected drama to the firefighter’s life. While there’s no official confirmation, Swan’s willingness to reprise the role keeps fans hopeful for a possible reunion—or confrontation—in the future.

For now, viewers can relive Brittany’s brief but impactful arc and imagine what chaos she might bring if she were to return to Firehouse 51.
