‘Seeing It End Was Hard’: Former ‘SEAL Team’ Cast Member Max Thieriot Reflects After Series Ends
After SEAL Team ended, Max Thieriot is reflecting on his time on the military drama. Before the actor starred and created Fire Country, he played Clay Spenser on the CBS series that transitioned to Paramount+. Due to his obligations to Fire Country, Thieriot exited SEAL Team in the middle of Season 6, and the series killed him off. Although he hasn’t been on the show for a while, now that it’s officially over, he told Deadline it was tough to leave a show that had such a big impact on him.
“Seeing it end was tough,” Thieriot shared. “Also, it was hard to leave that show, it had such a great cast and crew and really, really great people. There was definitely a big case of FOMO where I was really like, who are these people that I spent every day with, what are they doing? The show was really an incredible experience, one because I got to know everyone at CBS Paramount and join the CBS Paramount family, and obviously those relationships and friendships took me where I am and changed my career forever.”
“But the show also left a huge impression on me,” Thieriot continued. “It was really a humbling experience to work with all these veterans and tell stories that I think are really important and need to be told to support the military community. I think that show did a great job of bringing a lot of things to light and raising awareness for people, and being able to be a small part of that and tell some really impactful stories changed my life.”
While many may have hoped that Thieriot would still return for brief cameos after his departure, that didn’t happen, and that’s not too surprising considering how busy he was with Fire Country. At least the show kept Clay in the loop and still featured his wife, Stella (Alona Tal), and their young son, Brian, occasionally. Of course, Thieriot had good reasons for not returning, and at the very least, the show meant a lot to him.
SEAL Team ended on October 6 after seven seasons and 114 episodes. While it was hard to know how the show would end and whether anyone else would die, surprisingly, Bravo returned in full, even if some members went their separate ways after their final mission as a full team. While Max Thieriot may not return to SEAL Team, perhaps some of the SEAL Team stars could head to Fire Country for a while.
