‘SEAL Team’ Has Found a Home on Paramount Plus — But Will They Be Canceled Soon?
Prior to the announcement in February, there was doubt as to whether SEAL Team would get a sixth season. Luckily for fans of the show, the show now has a home on Paramount Plus and recently began airing Season 6. The action-packed military drama focuses on an elite team of Navy SEALs as they carry out dangerous and traumatic missions on behalf of their country. Prior to moving to Paramount Plus from CBS, SEAL Team’s ratings were declining and the show appeared to be canceled.
Now, in the middle of Season 6, fans are wondering whether the show will continue for Season 7. As mentioned above, SEAL Team Season 6 is currently airing on Paramount Plus. Unfortunately, there has been no official announcement regarding the possibility of a seventh season. Unlike CBS, the show seems to be more popular on streaming services, and keeping subscribers happy is of utmost importance to these platforms.
According to TV Series Finale, unless the streaming service decides to release viewership numbers, it will be difficult to determine whether the show will be renewed for a seventh season. Fortunately, the show seems to have found new life on Paramount Plus, and has more flexibility to push its storytelling style.
Why is ‘SEAL Team’ performing better on Paramount Plus?
One of the best things about streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max is the ability to inject a certain reality into their content. Unfortunately, network television has many limitations that don’t allow a show of this nature to truly feel real.
By moving to Paramount Plus, SEAL Team has been able to expand on many of its storylines in ways that they might not have been able to on CBS. From Jason’s (David Boreanaz) trauma to Ray’s (Neil Brown Jr.) PTSD, these shocking topics are brought to the forefront and the show is much better for it.
Also, while not the most important thing for a TV show and not always necessary, the show’s ability to use “appropriate” language really elevates it. Sometimes, all you need is a few swear words to emphasize the severity of a situation.
All the indicators are pointing to “yes.” They had a very successful fifth season and subscribers are enjoying the show on Paramount Plus. Unless there’s a budgetary reason why SEAL Team isn’t renewed for a seventh season, it should be an easy decision. At this point, the main focus is on the consistency of quality in Season 6. If SEAL Team can maintain its high-quality storytelling and retain subscribers, a seventh season announcement wouldn’t be surprising. Until then, fans should enjoy the journey with the Tier One team as Season 6 continues.
