A Shocking Twist Before Season 3 Even Begins
Tracker fans, brace yourselves! As the buzz for Season 3 builds, the hit CBS series has dropped a bombshell—two major characters are officially out. That’s right. Before a single frame of Season 3 rolls, we’re already saying goodbye to two familiar faces. But why? And how will this affect the storyline, dynamics, and future of the show? In this article, we’re digging into every detail—from cast exits to behind-the-scenes drama—plus what fans can expect from Season 3 of Tracker.
What Is Tracker? A Quick Refresher
Before diving into the drama, let’s do a quick recap. Tracker is the gripping procedural drama starring Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, a survivalist and lone-wolf tracker who solves mysteries and rescues the missing using his unique skills. It’s fast-paced, emotionally charged, and rich with character development. The show gained traction quickly thanks to its smart writing, suspenseful plotlines, and strong ensemble cast.
The Big News: Two Characters Won’t Return
Who Are the Two Characters Leaving Tracker?
So, who’s exiting the series? According to insider reports and confirmed cast announcements, both Abby McGraw (played by Fiona Rene) and Reenie Greene (played by Abby McEnany) will not be returning for Season 3.
Fiona Rene as Abby McGraw
Fiona Rene portrayed Abby, the tech-savvy support who worked closely with Colter behind the scenes. Her character brought a cool balance of calm under pressure and deep emotional insight.
Abby McEnany as Reenie Greene
Reenie, the eccentric bar owner and Colter’s confidante, brought a quirky charm that offered comedic relief and real heart. Abby McEnany’s performance made Reenie an instant fan favorite.
Why Were These Characters Written Out?
The Official Reason vs. The Rumors
Officially, CBS has cited “creative direction changes” as the reason for these departures. But fans and insiders speculate that contract negotiations, storyline evolution, and even potential spin-offs may be in play.
Could budget cuts be involved? Or is the show simply leaning more into Colter’s solo missions? The network hasn’t offered many answers—adding even more mystery.
The Impact on the Storyline
How Will Their Absence Change the Dynamic?
Without Abby and Reenie, Colter’s world will feel a little emptier—and perhaps a lot more dangerous. These characters weren’t just sidekicks; they were emotional anchors for Colter, helping humanize his cold, methodical nature.
Fewer Emotional Groundings
Abby brought tech expertise, but more importantly, she offered moral guidance. Without her, will Colter become too isolated?
No More Safe Haven with Reenie
Reenie’s bar was Colter’s informal HQ and emotional recharge station. With her gone, we may see Colter spiral into even darker terrain.
Fan Reactions: Twitter Exploded
Let’s be real—fans aren’t taking this lightly. Social media has been buzzing with hashtags like #BringBackAbby and #JusticeForReenie. Memes, reaction videos, and Reddit threads are overflowing with speculation and disappointment.
Some fans even suggest boycotting the show if replacements don’t live up to expectations.
Velma Bruin worked with Colter, finding new cases and helping provide background information on them. In season one, she worked out of her home alongside her spouse, Teddi, who left the show after season one. In season two, Velma began working out of Reenie’s new law firm. Velma has a big heart and loves animals. After Reenie was abducted and almost killed in season two’s “Rules of the Game,” Velma looked after Reenie, taking care of her. While viewers didn’t learn much about Velma as her role was largely utilitarian, there were little nuggets of information revealed throughout the first two seasons that left audiences wanting more.
Following the shocking season two finale, showrunner Elwood Reid sat down with Screen Rant to discuss what’s next for Colter Shaw. When they asked about expanding the character of Velma, Reid said, “A little bit.” Reid placed a focus on building out Reenie’s world and dealing with the Shaw family secret and how that would affect them, but added, “Then we’ll go into all those other storylines and try to figure out how those fit into the season.” While it seems as though Velma was a lower priority, it sounded like she was originally coming back for season three.
Bobby Exely served as Colter’s tech support. Bobby would hack into cellphones and websites to help Colter track down the missing people. Whether it was providing GPS maps or relevant text messages, Bobby played an important part in Colter’s team. Eric Graise’s exit is less of a surprise than Abby McEnany’s departure. Following the mid-season premiere “Nightingale,” Bobby was notably absent for a chunk of episodes. Reid had implied scheduling conflicts as the reason for Graise’s absence, but fans saw the writing on the wall when Chris Lee joined the team as Randy, Bobby’s tech-savvy cousin.
When Reid spoke with TV Line back in May, he was asked if both Graise and Lee would be back for season three. “I don’t know the complete plan, but the answer is that Chris will be back,” Reid answered. While he spoke about Bobby and Velma as though they would be returning, he had no hard plans for storylines centering on them. Reid’s initial plans focused on further exploring the characters of Reenie and Randy as well as dealing with the fallout from the reveal that Mary was somehow involved in her husband’s death.
