NBC has announced plans for a Sanford and Son 50th anniversary special that will reunite surviving cast members, share rare behind-the-scenes footage, and celebrate the sitcom’s lasting influence on television comedy.
The one-hour event will include newly remastered clips of Fred Sanford’s most memorable one-liners, interviews with family members of the late Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson, and commentary from modern comedians inspired by the show’s humor.
Producer Carla Benson says,
“We want to remind people why Sanford and Son was groundbreaking — it wasn’t just funny, it was fearless.”
Filming is expected to take place on a fully reconstructed Sanford & Son Salvage set, complete with vintage props from the original production. Fans can also expect a few surprise celebrity appearances from stars who grew up watching the show.
