Sam Carver’s Tragedy in Chicago Fire Season 13 Is the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Him
Jake Lockett’s Sam Carver has had a rough time in Chicago Fire Season 13, but after some tough love in episode 6, he may finally be able to start getting his life back on track. Of all the character arcs in season 13 of the NBC drama, Carver’s is probably the most frustrating (to him and the audience). Episode after episode, Carver’s mental state continues to deteriorate, which is only going to end in trouble. The good news is that a fan-favorite Chicago Fire character doesn’t seem to be letting him get to that point.
Lockett joined the Chicago Fire cast in season 11 as a new recruit at Truck 81. After meeting Stella Kidd from the fire academy, he immediately made a connection at Firehouse 51 and quickly formed a strong bond with Kidd. Some thought Carver was in love with Kidd (despite her being married to Kelly Severide), but his feelings for Kidd’s loyalty were erased when Carver began dating Violet Mikami. Unfortunately, Carver and Violet’s romance has been tumultuous over the past few seasons, which led to his downfall in Chicago Fire season 13.
After Sam went on leave (he started his leave in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale because of his fight with Violet), he returned to Chicago in the season 13 premiere. But he wasn’t alone. Carver brought his ex-girlfriend from home, Tori, with him, as the two rekindled their romance. However, Tori was a bad influence on Carver and manipulated him. She convinced him to stay out late, party, and do things that started to directly affect his work in episode 6. After some mistakes while on the job, Kidd called Carver out and told him to go home.
In episode 6, season 13 of Chicago Fire, Tori planted some seeds to get Carver out of Firehouse 51 and Chicago. She mentioned that Carver’s coworkers didn’t appreciate him and that there were plenty of fire stations in Austin, Texas where that would happen.
Kidd (temporarily) fired Carver from Firehouse 51 at the end of Chicago Fire season 13, episode 6 and called someone to replace him for the rest of his shift. He really needed a reality check, and Kidd gave him that. Carver treated people badly (especially Violet), was lazy at work, and didn’t act like himself. Hopefully, Kidd sending Carver home will finally give him the motivation to act in Chicago Fire season 13.
Kidd punishing Carver in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 6, could be the beginning of the end of his relationship with Tori. Of course, Carver is an adult who makes his own choices. However, Tori has definitely been a toxic presence in his life since the premiere. If Carver wants to put himself on a better path and start making decisions that will improve his mental health, he will break up with Tori. If not, Carver will likely leave Chicago Fire for good.
The good news is that the One Chicago show is definitely laying the groundwork for Carver and Tori to break up. Carver needs to hit rock bottom before he can change his life, and Kidd has fired him from his rock bottom shift. After Chicago Fire season 13, episode 6, Carver has to realize that he’s going down a bad path, and the first step to fixing his mistakes is to leave Tori.
