Annie Ilonzeh Reflects on ‘S.W.A.T.’ Series Finale: “I’m Just As Confused As the Audience”

The S.W.A.T. series finale, which aired on May 16, 2025, concluded the show’s eight-season run with high-stakes episodes “Ride or Die” and “Return to Base.” The finale featured major story resolutions, including Devin Gamble confronting her brother Leon’s involvement with a violent carjacking ring, ultimately leading to a painful personal decision to let him escape. David “Deacon” Kay dealt with a dangerous stalker, while Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson and the team faced off against Red Sword, a deadly group of Russian mercenaries using drones and seeking to eliminate rogue agent Dmitri Rykov. The episodes culminated in intense action sequences, including a final assault on SWAT’s headquarters, where Gamble heroically saved Hondo, prompting him to convince her to stay on the team. The series closed with a heartfelt moment as Deacon gifted each member a watch symbolizing their shared time and bonds, followed by the team gearing up for one final mission.

In an exclusive interview with Wet Satin Press, Annie Ilonzeh, who portrayed Officer Devin Gamble, shared her thoughts on the series finale. She admitted that it was “really hard to say satisfied” about the conclusion, adding, “There was so much more juice to squeeze out of it. So you’re really like, ‘Wait, I just left a whole meal on the table. I am not full. I’m not satisfied.’” Ilonzeh also noted that while the cast was happy with the attempt at a resolution, the finale still leaves viewers with questions.

Ahead of the finale, Ilonzeh and co-star Anna Enger Ritch teased that the closing installment would leave audiences “wanting so much more.” Ritch mentioned that the finale would make viewers “not want this show to end,” while Ilonzeh added that the episodes would leave fans “guessing and very curious for more.”
