’S.W.A.T.’s Final Season Gets New Streaming Home Following Third Cancellation

While it’s been less than half a year since S.W.A.T. was cancelled for the third and final time, many still can’t get over it, even with the promising spin-off, Exiles, on the way. The Emmy-nominated procedural ended with Season 8 on May 16, 2025, after premiering on October 18, 2024. Its final cancellation, on the other hand, was announced in March 2025, prompting a myriad of reactions from the cast and fans. Now, five months later, S.W.A.T.’s final season has found a new streaming home, which sadly doesn’t bring the show back.

S.W.A.T. Season 8 will become available to watch on Netflix starting September 15, 2025, as confirmed by the streamer on X (formerly called Twitter). The action drama joins a few similarly successful small-screen productions all debuting on the same day, including Call the Midwife Season 14 and all six seasons of ABC/CMT’s Nashville. This also comes close to a year after S.W.A.T. Season 7 arrived on Netflix US back in October 2024.

Led by Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., S.W.A.T. Season 8 saw Hondo’s continued efforts to mend community relations and strengthen the team as they dealt with high-pressure situations. Before being finally scrapped, the crime series was cancelled after six seasons in May 2023, only to be renewed for a seventh season at CBS a few days later. At the time, Season 7 was intended as the final; however, the decision was reversed in April 2024, ultimately leading to a Season 8 order.
