S.W.A.T. is proving to be a true comeback story!
The series, led by Shemar Moore, has officially been renewed for Season 8 by CBS after an earlier cancellation. The new season will feature 22 episodes.
This marks the second time the show has faced cancellation and then revival, as it was previously renewed for Season 7 in 2023.
Moore, who stars as Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson and also serves as an executive producer, spoke with ET back in February about what was initially thought to be the final season. He hinted at the show’s potential return, saying, “Oh man, it’s been such a good run. And, you know, this is my 30th year in the game, so I pinch myself. [It’s been] seven years of a really fun show. And the word on the street is it’s our final season—but, you know, I’m an optimist.”
He further teased, “We hate to see it go. But again, I’m not quite sure it’s the end, but that’s just me. I know that the door is not completely closed.”
Moore had hoped that airing Season 7 after the Super Bowl would boost viewership and persuade CBS to greenlight another season. “If the numbers are good, maybe we’ll change some minds and keep on trucking,” he shared. He also acknowledged the fans’ crucial role in saving the show from cancellation, stating, “I know the fans made noise… they were a huge part of it.”
Following the announcement of the renewal, Moore took to Instagram to express his gratitude: “Thank you to ALL my HOMIES, FANS, n BABY GIRLS!!!” He also shared a cast photo with everyone holding up eight fingers in celebration.
Alongside Moore, the cast of S.W.A.T. includes Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Rochelle Aytes, and Anna Enger Ritch.
