Ryan Murphy Reveals Whether He’ll Make More Movies
In 2024 alone, Ryan Murphy’s name is attached to a number of new projects including American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, Grotesquerie, and Doctor Odyssey, along with upcoming seasons of other titles like Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and 9-1-1. The producer, director, writer, and creator has built a television empire for himself, starting with some of his earliest works; Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story. Murphy has grown in popularity over the years, now a household name, having created something for just about every age group and genre fan under the sun.
While his list of series is as long as a CVS receipt, his filmography is a bit shorter, though still impressive. The most recent series project he’s attached to is Mr. Harrigan’s Phone in 2022, which he’s producing. As a filmmaker, meanwhile, his most recent film to back was the 2020 big-screen adaptation of the hit musical The Prom. He previously directed the classic romantic drama Eat Pray Love starring Julia Roberts, with 2006’s Running with Scissors being his feature-length debut.
In a recent conversation with Collider’s Taylor Gates, which focused on the latest season of Monsters, Murphy opened up about the possibility of returning to the world of film. For those who have enjoyed his reign on television, there’s good news for you, as Murphy said: “No, I’m just not really interested in it. I love what I’m doing; I love what I’m doing. I’m really happy doing what I’m doing. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do my whole life.” I love television — I love the storytelling we do. I have six shows [launching] in September and they’re all so different. I love getting to explore different things, work with different people, and employ thousands of talented artists from all over the world. So, no — I love what I do and I want to keep doing it. “As one of the busiest men in the business, Murphy is never slowing down—at least not right now. He and his frequent collaborator Ian Brennan will soon begin production on the third season of Monster, which stars Charlie Hunnam as the infamous serial killer Ed Gein. He’s also working on a new legal drama called All’s Fair, which features a growing list of stars. So far, the project includes Kim Kardashian (American Horror Story: Delicate), Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Glenn Close (The Deliverance), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story), Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive), and Niecy Nash-Betts (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story). He’s also behind a graphic novel adaptation, The Beauty, starring Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Anthony Ramos (Twisters), Ashton Kutcher (That ’70s Show) and Jeremy Pope (Pose). But wait, there’s more, because he also recently announced American Love Story, which will explore the tragic relationship of Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr.
