Ryan Murphy Confirms Second ‘9-1-1’ Spinoff Is in the Works for ABC

Ryan Murphy has confirmed that he and 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear are working on a new spinoff of the hit ABC series that they hope to air next fall.
Murphy did not offer any other details about the potential spinoff, other than that it would be set in a new location.
This would be the second 9-1-1 spinoff, following 9-1-1: Lone Star, which is set in Austin, Texas, and is currently in its fifth and final season on Fox.
Fans may recall that 9-1-1 also aired on Fox before moving to ABC in recent years. The new spinoff will also be broadcast on the Alphabet network.
The original 9-1-1 recently saw a swarm of giant killer bees appear during a recent Bee-nado event in his hometown of Los Angeles, a location the new spinoff will reportedly avoid.

The news comes from a comment Murphy himself made to Variety, in which he said he and Minear are “working on a spinoff show that we’re actually writing and we’re hoping to air next fall… We’re launching a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s exciting. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday nights. They obviously had interest in that show, so we’re going to give them another show that I really love.”

The original 9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders – including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers – who are thrust into the most terrifying, shocking and breathtaking conditions. These emergency responders must balance saving the most vulnerable while dealing with the problems in their own lives. The show is inspired by the real lives of first responders, who are often faced with situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time.

The series stars Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Bobby Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Han, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Kenneth Choi as Howie “Chimney” Han, Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz.
