Long before he was earning rave reviews for his portrayal of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, a role he assumed earlier this year, Rory Gibson was making a name for himself in the soap world as another legacy character, Noah Newman onYoung and Restless. He joined the Genoa City ranks in 2021 and last appeared on Y&R in 2023. Just a few months after Gibson made his GH debut, his old daytime home announced that it had recast the role of Noah with Days of Our Lives alum Lucas Adams (ex-Tripp Johnson), whose first air date is imminent. Soap Opera Digest checked in with Gibson about how he feels about another actor taking over his old role.
Noah’s Arc
“I was actually late to finding out,” shares Gibson of how he learned about Adams’s hiring. “But shortly after I did find out, maybe two or three days later, I actually went to the movies with Josh [Morrow, Nick, Y&R] and his son, Crew [Morrow, Will on Bold and Beautiful]. We were chatting and I was like, ‘Dude, I heard you have a new son on the show!’ He was like, ‘Yeah, man!’ and he had nothing but awesome things to say about the new guy coming in. From what I’ve heard, first off, he’s quite an incredible actor, and he’s just a super, super nice dude.”
Unfinished Business: Prior to Gibson’s Y&R departure, his Noah was poised for big story with ex Audra (Zuleyka Silver).
From Gibson’s perspective, it’s nothing but good news that his former character will be getting a new storyline life. “I love all my people over at Y&R,” he declares. “I had an incredible time over there while I was playing Noah, so any positive addition that they could bring to that show, I’m stoked for them. I’m very happy for the story possibilities, too, because when I left as Noah, there was a lot kind of going on in his world that could have been played out, but we just didn’t get the chance to. So now that those doors are opening back up, I’m very curious to see what’s going to happen — what’s going to happen with him, his parents, what’s going to happen with his friendships with Tessa and his sister [Mariah] and all that?”
There is one unresolved storyline that he’s particularly curious about. “I especially want to know what’s going to happen with Noah and Audra,” he shares, referring to Noah’s former flame. “When Zuleyka [Silver, Audra] first came on, we had a couple of things together and we started kind of a heavy story and then it kind of just faded away a little bit and we didn’t really get to play too much of that out after the fact. So I’m very curious to see what they’re gonna do with that [relationship] and I think it’s going to be some exciting stuff.”
The actor allows that when he was first written out of Y&R, “It was a bummer in the moment, because I just loved all the people there. So, I was like, ‘Ah, dang.’ But — and I talked to Mo [Maurice Benard, Sonny] about this on his podcast — I felt like not much was going with Noah at the time, so maybe he did need to bounce. And if that hadn’t happened, then I probably would never have landed here [on GH], and I feel like this is really the right fit for me. It feel good, I feel fulfilled. So, it all worked out the way it was supposed to.”
