Rome Flynn has landed an exciting new project after leaving the NBC series Chicago Fire following a brief stint on the show.
The 33-year-old actor played Derrick Gibson in season 12 of the NBC series. He appeared in six episodes before his character went off to get help for his drug addiction.
Now, Rome will be starring in a new movie musical that counts Tyler Perry as an executive producer!
Deadline reports that production is underway on the indie film Otra, with filming happening in Atlanta and Puerto Rico. The film is being shot in a single, continuous take.
Director Armani Ortiz Deadline, “I’ve been dreaming and planning for this project for the better part of five years, and for it to be my first solo debut feature film feels like fate. From a filmmaking perspective, I really wanted to do something that the audience has never seen before—the first-ever one-shot musical in cinema history. And if there happens to already be a one-shot musical, then I guarantee it was not made for the budget we have.”
Tyler said, “I’ve had the opportunity to watch Armani grow into an amazing storyteller. From the moment he began working at Tyler Perry Studios over a decade ago, to direct my documentary, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, and working on several series at the studio—he has grown so much as a writer, director, and actor. Otra is a story about love, fate, and finding your voice. I’m excited for Armani’s solo directorial debut, and for audiences to see his vision come to life.”
