NCIS: Tony & Ziva will have thrills and romance alongside its spy capers, making it the perfect streaming replacement for Prime Video’s 2024 spy thriller. Prime Video has greenlit several action series in recent years, but popular spy thriller Mr. &Mrs. Smith has yet to debut its second season.
The first season of the series starred Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as a pair of strangers who posed as a married couple after being recruited by a secret spy organization. As the stakes of their missions grew, so did the tension and feelings between them.
Prime Video ordered a second season of Mr. &Mrs. Smith in May 2024. The new season has not yet made it into production, although leads have been cast: Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets). For thriller fans who have grown impatiently waiting for the new season, NCIS: Tony & Ziva will offer a great alternative on Paramount+.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva Will Be As Much Of A Romance As A Globetrotting Spy Thriller
The Pair Were A Will-They-Won’t-They NCIS Couple
Although NCIS: Tony & Ziva spins out of the larger NCIS franchise, the audience does not have to watch the entire series in order to jump right in. That’s not unlike the premise of Prime Video’s Mr. &Mrs. Smith being inspired by the movie of the same name, but putting a new twist on the idea of married spies.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva picks up years after the titular characters, played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, have left the flagship NCIS series. Living in Paris, the two share a daughter, but not a romantic relationship.
In the original NCIS series, the two worked together and the show often hinted at their feelings for one another, but did not outright confirm them until Ziva and Tony left the show. The trailer for NCIS: Tony & Ziva promises the two will still be bickering and sharing romantic tension.
They will be doing that while embroiled in the middle of a spy plot after Tony’s private security company is targeted. The romance and the action will share equal billing in NCIS: Tony & Ziva as they are forced to work together to protect their daughter and one other.
The Tony & Ziva Spinoff Is The Perfect Show To Watch While Waiting On Mr. &Mrs. Smith Season 2
Both Streaming Series Feature Couples Connecting In High Stakes Situations
…the high-stakes nature of the situations in which the characters find themselves will foster their connections to one another.
While the NCIS spinoff does not throw two strangers into a situation where they live and work together as though they are married, it still shares a lot of similarities with Mr. &Mrs. Smith. In particular, the high-stakes nature of the situations in which the characters find themselves will foster their connections to one another.
Tony and Ziva may have a rich history, but early interviews have indicated Ziva is holding back in the relationship, and that the two are not in a romantic relationship when the series picks up. They work together to raise their daughter, but they also have a working professional relationship.
Being shot at, ending up in car chases, and trying to outwit the bad guys on a regular basis puts Tony and Ziva in the same kind of high-stakes situations as John and Jane Smith. They have another to rely on without knowing if they can trust anyone else, and their very lives hang in the balance.
That’s enough to strengthen the bond between complete strangers, let alone two people who worked together for almost a decade and now share a daughter. Weatherly and de Pablo had fantastic chemistry during their time on NCIS, and that chemistry will only add to the bonds between their characters here.
Chemistry was also a big selling point for the first season of Mrs. &Mrs. Smith. Glover and Erskine were promoting for it, and fans are hoping Thatcher and Eydelshteyn will have it in season 2. While waiting to see if the chemistry pans out, however, fans should tune in to
