The Season 2 premiere of Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, is coming up, and the trailer teases a passionate kiss that his character Colter Shaw seems reluctant to talk about. What’s in store for Tracker this season?
On September 13, CBS released a new trailer for Season 2 of Tracker, and we got a few glimpses of Jensen Ackles as Colter’s brother Russell and Sofia Pernas (Hartley’s real-life wife) as bounty hunter Billie Matalon.
According to TVLine, Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin in Season 1, will not be returning for Season 2. Abby McEnany, who played Teddi’s wife (and Colter’s manager), is back as Velma.
The synopsis for Tracker’s first episode of the new season explains what to expect: “While investigating the strange disappearance of a missing family whose car is found abandoned on the side of a road in the Arkansas backwoods, Colter makes a shocking discovery about his mother’s past that leads him into the world of organized crime. Additionally, Reenie opens her new law firm and enlists Velma’s help in setting up shop.”
In the trailer, Colter shares a kiss with a possible love interest, which could certainly make for an interesting dynamic. Velma tells him over the phone, “I’m making sure you don’t do anything stupid,” to which he replies, “I don’t want to talk about it.” Tech expert Bobby chimed in, saying, “Oh, that sounds fishy.”
TVLine revealed some spoilers for Tracker Season 2 in their Fall 2024 Preview. Showrunner Elwood Reid told the site that “Colter is probably the worst” of the siblings (Russell (Ackles) and Dory (Melissa Roxburgh)) after their father’s death.
Wendy Crewson will return as Colter’s mother, Mary. “You’re going to see quite a bit of her,” Reid said. “We still have to build up what actually happened [after] their father’s death. Remember, Dory went to live with her aunt and uncle… [Russell] went into the military… They each have parts of their story, from different perspectives, that they never shared with Colter.”
The showrunner also revealed more details about the fallout from Mary’s secret that she has a box of their father’s diaries, noting that, “some of the motives behind what [Mary] did to Colter and why she tried to protect him will be revealed, and it may not be what you think.”
Both Justin Hartley and Pernas posted the trailer on Instagram, with Pernas sharing, “Preview!! Tracker is back ✊🏼 Well: guys, this next season is no more. Don’t miss the S2 premiere on Sunday, October 13th – airing on CBS and Paramount+.”
Perhaps the best reaction to Hartley’s Instagram post came from his This Is Us co-star Sterling K. Brown, who commented, “You fucked your wife… on screen?!”
Others shared their excitement at seeing Hartley and Ackles together. “We’re definitely going to see more of those handsome Shaw brothers on screen!!” one fan wrote. “It’s time to explore more of their family secrets. Now, with any luck, we need all three siblings together at some point.”
