Robert Pattinson revealed the hilarious thing his mother did after it was announced that he was joining the ‘Twilight’ cast as Edward Cullen.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Twilight changed Robert Pattinson’s life. Playing Edward Cullen would make him one of the most recognizable faces on the planet. Because the five films became a global phenomenon, Pattinson will end the franchise as a multimillionaire. Furthermore, being a part of such a successful franchise would ensure that Pattinson could have his pick of acting projects going forward.
Robert Pattinson wanted to make small movies after ‘Harry Potter’
Funnily enough, Pattinson didn’t set out to be in such a huge blockbuster film. After portraying Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he was seriously considering a career in music. However, when his Harry Potter money ran out, he knew it was time to get back into acting. The Batman star’s plan was actually to act in small films that nobody would see so that he could get better at his craft. However, fate had other plans.
‘The Batman’ actor’s mother humbled him after he joined the ‘Twilight’ cast
Thanks to his talent, valium, his natural chemistry with Kristen Stewart, and good luck, Pattison booked the male lead in Twilight. Naturally, he was excited to be working again and to have booked such a coveted role. While Pattinson knew that Twilight had a built-in audience (thanks to the eponymous books) he had no idea just how passionate they were. However, he was quickly reminded by his mom just days after he booked the job.
“My mom sent me some stuff, which she thought was really funny, when I was already in America,” Pattinson revealed to MTV. “They had this picture from this Viking movie I did where I looked like someone had beaten me in the face with a frying pan. I was wearing this disgusting wig. And they were like ‘THIS is Edward.’ It was a petition, which they were going to send to Summit saying, ‘We will not go and see the movie.’ It got up to 75,000 signings. This is about three days after I got cast. I was thinking, ‘Thanks for sending that mom!’ That was my welcome into Twilight.”
Pattinson didn’t feel beautiful enough to play Edward Cullen in ‘Twilight’
Pattinson’s mom clearly got a kick out of the petition. Fortunately, Pattinson’s feelings weren’t too hurt by the negative response to him being cast in Twilight. In fact, even he felt that he didn’t look the part of someone as perfect as Edward. Even after he filmed the movie, he didn’t think he was physically right for the role.
“The initial reaction was 100 percent ‘He’s completely wrong for it.’ And I agree with them,” Pattinson said of the angry Twilight fans. “I didn’t play it like some guy who knew he was beautiful. I still don’t really feel it. I don’t feel it at all.”
