For over a decade, Chicago Fire has introduced us to a memorable cast of characters who became like family to viewers. But as with any long-running series, actors sometimes move on to new ventures, leaving a void at Firehouse 51. While we miss their presence on screen, many of these beloved stars have continued to shine in new roles. Let’s catch up with some familiar faces who’ve left the show and see what they’re up to now!
Monica Raymund (Gabby Dawson)
Character’s Journey: Paramedic turned firefighter Gabriela Dawson was a central figure for six seasons, known for her fierce determination, compassion, and passionate relationship with Matt Casey. She left to lead a disaster relief unit in Puerto Rico, with a brief return appearance in Season 8.
Where is she now? After leaving Chicago Fire, Monica Raymund took on the lead role of Jackie Quiñones in the Starz crime drama series Hightown, which ran from 2020 to 2024. She also delved into directing, helming episodes for various shows including FBI, Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Sinner, and even an episode of Hightown. More recently, she appeared in the pilot episode of the Dick Wolf-produced streaming procedural On Call. Beyond acting and directing, Raymund is also a talented singer, showcasing her musical prowess in various cabaret shows and concerts.
Jesse Spencer (Matthew Casey)
Character’s Journey: Captain Matthew Casey was a cornerstone of Firehouse 51 for nearly 10 seasons, a principled leader and a beloved figure. He departed the show to move to Oregon and care for the Darden boys, making guest appearances in later seasons.
Where is he now? After his initial departure from Chicago Fire in 2021, Jesse Spencer continued to make guest appearances on the show. He married research scientist Dr. Kali Woodruff Carr in 2020, and the couple welcomed their first child two years later. Spencer cited wanting to spend more time with his growing family as a reason for his initial exit from the series. He has largely kept a private profile since then, focusing on his family life.
Dora Madison Burge (Jessica “Chili” Chilton)
Character’s Journey: Paramedic Jessica “Chili” Chilton joined Firehouse 51 in Season 3 but her character’s tenure was marked by personal struggles, eventually leading to her departure.
Where is she now? Since her time on Chicago Fire, Dora Madison Burge has been active in independent films and television. She notably starred in Viceland’s first scripted series What Would Diplo Do? in 2017. She’s also made a name for herself in the horror genre, appearing in films like Bliss (2019), VFW (2019), Alone With You (2021), and Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022). After taking a brief hiatus following the birth of her daughter, she returned to the big screen in the 2023 queer comedy Big Boys.
DuShon Monique Brown (Connie)
Character’s Journey: DuShon Monique Brown played Connie, Chief Boden’s no-nonsense, yet caring, assistant at Firehouse 51 from the show’s inception until her passing.
Her Legacy: Sadly, DuShon Monique Brown passed away in March 2018. Before and during her time on Chicago Fire, she was a well-respected actress in Chicago theater and had roles in other television series such as Prison Break, Boss, Empire, and Shameless. Her character, Connie, was beloved by fans and her colleagues, and her absence was deeply felt on the show. The cast and crew paid tribute to her warmth and talent.
While we often miss these characters on our screens, it’s wonderful to see the talented actors who brought them to life continue to thrive in their careers and personal lives. Their contributions to Chicago Fire helped build the strong foundation and loyal fanbase the show enjoys today.
