The latest threat against the Intelligence Unit cannot be neutralized by good old police work and some lawbreaking. Reid (Shawn Hatosy) has his fans inside Voight (Jason Beghe) and his people in the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale. He has them where he wants them, but they try to make sly attempts to escape. “Forced to cease operations while under investigation by Internal Affairs, Intelligence goes off-book to bring down Reid. Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) consider delaying their nuptials amid the uncertainty,” the logline for Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 22, “Vows,” teases. “He’s a formidable opponent…with plenty of cops who back him up,” showrunner Gwen Sigan told TV Insider when previewing the season finale. “The team’s job and the future of Intelligence are on the line, leaving Voight to battle his darker instincts,” she added.
Reid’s best move was making sure the team was scattered so they wouldn’t be able to conspire against him. “It’s less ‘Where do things stand?’ and more ‘Who’s left standing?’ Reid is taking us apart piece by piece,” John Flueger added. There’s a lot at risk if Reid succeeds. Some members like Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), could be headed for jail while everyone else could lose their jobs. The luckiest member will be the one to get demoted. “Some of us will lose our badges and the rest, as I understand it, will be bumped significantly down to jobs normally reserved for PO’s fresh from the academy,” John Flueger added. Taking Reid down, if they succeed, will be a tough thing to do. Squerciati previewed the reality of the situation, saying:
“Reid is in every corner and crevice of the city, so we have to be careful that he doesn’t [discover] we are on his trail. We’re in uncharted territory. For the first time ever, we see Voight at a loss. It’s scary!”
Voight Goes to a Dark Place In the ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 12 Finale
The episode’s promo teases a battle for Voight. His entire existence wants him to revert to the man he has worked hard to leave behind, while Chapman (Sara Bues) wants him to take those instincts. “Chapman seems to be the only person that can truly get through and communicate to Voight. She’s both a motivator and a conscience for the man,” John Flueger assessed. Whether she succeeds in getting him to consider another way remains to be seen, but no one should hold their breath. Coming for his people is a personal attack on Voight, and he’ll do anything to protect them.
