Sometimes. Everyone can see the sarcastic sparks flying except, perhaps, the two individuals involved. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case between Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) and Reenie Green (Fiona Rene), as the pair seem well aware of their mutual interest in each other. Despite the couple’s tumultuous history being revealed in Season 1 of Tracker, romance has yet to blossom. In this week’s episode, titled Noble Rot, Colter and Reenie team up to solve the case of a missing woman. The case comes while Reenie is on vacation with her partner, Elliott Rush (Michael Rady). So what does this mean for the future of the Colter-Reenie romance?
Despite their undeniable chemistry, Colter and Reenie seem to want to ignore the simmering tension between them. Colter has other love interests, and Reenie isn’t far behind with Colter’s brother, Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles), constantly around. However, the nature of the conversation at the end of Noble Rot suggests that Elliot’s presence in Reenie’s life may put any future hopes of a romance with Colter on hold… at least for the time being. Speaking to TV Insider, Rene explained that it’s not exactly a clear-cut case, as the pair seem to be at different stages in their lives. Rene’s comment was: “He knew that I was open and available and interested, and he was very closed to that. And then even in the first episode, you walked away? So I think at the end of Season 1, when she decided she wasn’t as available as she was, that really changed the dynamic between the two of them. I think our relationship is so strong now that we really want the best for each other. I think Colter is really aware of what he can give right now. And I think he knows that Reenie needs more and he wants that for her because I think deep down, he loves me too, and you want the best for the person you love, not just what you want. So I say, the door is closed… [with] an ellipsis.”
Throughout the episode, Colter seems to be constantly probing to determine the exact nature of Reenie and Elliot’s relationship. Reenie isn’t fazed as she offers her own criticism, referring to Colter’s rival stalker, Billie Matalon (Sofia Pernas). Despite all the non-committal efforts on both sides. Perhaps there’s still some hope left. “I could have closed the door, but there’s no lock. And I also have a credit card that I can put in there and open it really quickly, and it’s an Amex platinum card. You know what I’m saying?” Rene adds with a smile. On the possibility of Elliot staying longer. “I think you’re right,” the actor says. “I think there’s some potential there.”
Tracker Season 2 has sought to introduce Reenie in a much more dominant light. With Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin, leaving the show and leaving Reenie working with Velma (Abby McEnany), the show’s second season will see more of the star. The character has also quit her job to start her own relationship management company, and all of this points to a woman who only enters a romantic relationship when she feels happy. “I mean, I love him, but do you expect me to live in a trailer? [Laughs] You know what I mean? I think there’s a lot of love there, but I also think she would never live on the road. You have two people who are so natural that I can’t imagine how that would work out, but who knows?” Rene has previously spoken about a potential romance.
