Ranking Every Season of Chicago P.D. – From Weakest to Absolute Best th02

No memes today — but instead, you’re getting my full personal ranking of Chicago P.D. seasons! Feel free to drop your own list in the comments. And no complaining — this is my opinion 😉

7. Season 4

I genuinely thought this season had the potential to be great. Episodes like “The Silos” and “A Shot Heard Around the World” are among the best the show has ever produced. Unfortunately, far too much of the season is consumed by Erin’s mother’s drama, leaving little room for meaningful character development.

On top of that, Mouse exits the show — which still hurts. That said, we did get Burgess and Erin working together and some progress in Linstead, which was nice. Still, overall? A pretty forgettable season.

6. Season 2

This might be a controversial take, but… what actually happened this season? It felt repetitive and lacked momentum. Nadia appeared in a handful of episodes, which was great — but her death came far too soon.

Overall, Season 2 just feels flat and uninspired. It edges out Season 4 slightly, but not by much.

5. Season 5

Season 5 is the definition of mediocre. There was so much potential here, and several strong episodes — especially the finale, which I still consider one of the best Chicago P.D. episodes ever.

However, there’s one major issue: Denny Woods. Mykelti Williamson is an actor I’ll always respect (he’s Bubba, after all), but Denny Woods made several episodes nearly unbearable. At least he eventually got put in his place, which saves this season from being a total loss.

4. Season 3

Now this season had some serious fire. Episodes like “Now I’m God” and “Start Digging” were standout moments. I loved seeing Hank as a grandfather — it added depth and heart to his character.

This is also where Linstead really started to spiral in an interesting way. Sean Roman was fantastic this season and completely changed my opinion of his character. All in all, a solid and memorable season.

3. Season 6

I honestly don’t understand the hate this season gets. Season 5 was all about Denny trying to take Voight down — Season 6 follows a similar idea, except this time Voight has an ally in Ray Price, which makes the storyline far more enjoyable.

Add in Antonio’s addiction arc (an excellent storyline) and Ruzek stepping up for him, and you’ve got a season packed with emotion. Three episodes from this season even make my personal Top 10 list. Absolutely wild season.

2. Season 7

Oh. My. God. This season almost took the top spot. Everything — except Rojas — was incredible. Marina Squerciati and Tracy Spiridakos truly leveled up as performers this season.

The finale is one of the show’s best and arrived at the perfect moment. Burzek’s storyline was revived with Burgess’s pregnancy and heartbreaking miscarriage (which, honestly, I expected). Upton and Jay also entered a relationship that actually felt like it could last.

And let’s not forget the early hints of an Atwater–Rojas dynamic. Season 7 was outstanding and had me unbelievably excited for Season 8.

1. Season 1

Call me biased. Call me delusional. But nothing — at least so far — beats the first season. Yes, everyone was trying to take Voight down, but it never felt exhausting or frustrating.

The first two episodes remain among my all-time favorites. Jin’s time with the unit was phenomenal, and his character was deeply compelling. Everyone received meaningful character development — which makes sense, since it was the beginning.

This was also one of Trudy’s strongest seasons, with plenty of screen time and standout moments. Season 1 is peak Chicago P.D., no debate.
