Queen Charlotte Trailer: Bridgerton Spinoff Is Most Epic Romance Yet
Netflix releases a new full trailer for the spinoff series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, teasing the epic, swooning romance of young Charlotte.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s new trailer proves that the Queen had just as steamy a love life as any of her subjects back in her younger years. The series is the first spinoff to Netflix’s popular Regency-era romance Bridgerton, which is adapted from the novel series of the same name by Julia Quinn. Queen Charlotte spans three decades before the events of Bridgerton, following the romantic travails of Golda Rosheuvel’s Queen Charlotte, played as a younger woman by India Amarteifio in flashbacks.
Today, Netflix dropped a brand-new official trailer ahead of the Queen Charlotte release date on May 4.
The trailer sets up the intense love triangle that will populate the six-episode season, which sees Charlotte torn between her obligations to marry into the royal family and the man who she thinks might be her true love. In typical Bridgerton style, however, her romance won’t be the only love blossoming in the season, as sparks are clearly flying between two gentlemen in the royal court as well.
Why Queen Charlotte is the Perfect Character for Bridgerton’s First Spinoff
Any story set in the Bridgerton universe can’t help but have couples forming left and right. Although every season focuses on the blossoming romance of one member of the extended Bridgerton family, there are romances surrounding them at every turn thanks to a massive slate of side characters who fill out the world. Given how many characters are crammed into the Bridgerton cast, making a prequel series about Queen Charlotte wasn’t necessarily the most obvious choice.
Non-Bridgerton romances could have taken place anywhere in the past, present, or future of the main series timeline. However, this trailer showcases why she is the perfect centerpiece for the first spinoff not to center around a Bridgerton. Although the Bridgerton matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) will be present in the series to help provide connecting tissue, Charlotte’s romantic travails provide everything a proper Bridgerton romance needs and more.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story fulfills the promise at the center of any Bridgerton romance, which is a high-society courtship packed with scandal. While there is usually a class divide between the two central lovers in some way, providing an aspirational element, the fact that Charlotte’s romance involves actual core members of the royal family provides a boost to the already sweeping drama. Not only will her romance impact her future, it could affect the course of the entire nation’s history as well.
