“Queen Charlotte Season 2: The Latest for ‘Bridgerton’ Fans”
There’s big news in the Bridgerton universe, with season 3 returning in May 2024. The third season of the popular series will focus on the romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). But some fans are still excited for the Queen Charlotte prequel, which is coming in 2023. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is planned as a six-episode limited series by creator Shonda Rhimes, but she has been open about her love for the characters and has even written a novel about them. So while there are currently no plans for more Queen Charlotte-focused episodes, Shonda told Entertainment Weekly, “There have been questions, but I haven’t had that conversation. I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete story about this complicated, imperfect love. But I don’t rule anything out because I never know.”
If the show’s creators leave the door open (even just a crack), what about the series’ stars? India Amarteifio (Queen Charlotte) said, “I feel very lucky to be able to play someone who’s so complex. I really want to do something in this world again.” And Arsema Thomas, who plays Lady Danbury, explained, “I’m obsessed with this character… if I get an offer to do it again, I’ll do it.”
While there are currently no plans for a season 2 of Queen Charlotte, what about the rest of the show’s characters? There’s certainly plenty of potential for more prequels in the Bridgerton universe. Shonda addressed the possibility in an interview with Hello!. She said, “There’s no plan to explore anyone in particular. I’m just doing it because I’m so passionate about the subject matter. Although when I was writing it, I was very interested in Violet’s story. So we’ll see.”
While the future remains uncertain, there’s one thing we know for sure: Bridgerton season 3 will premiere on Netflix on May 16, with the second season debuting on June 13.
