Queen Charlotte India actor Amarteifio revealed whether her name has any connection with the country
The much-loved prequel to Netflix’s hugely successful Bridgerton series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, has an interesting connection to India. Our country is also the name of the show’s main character. The series starring India Amarteifio as young Queen Charlotte has become as beloved as both seasons of Bridgerton.
At Netflix’s Tudum international event in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Amarteifio explained the origin of her name. During an interaction with Mid Day, the actor replied, “I wish” when asked if there was any backstory to her unusual name. She revealed that her parents are big fans of this name. Neither they nor she had ever visited India. They chose it because they liked the sound of it, and she allegedly jumped out and her mother said, “That’s India.”
Amarteifio added that she should definitely ask her mom about this, but she’s a huge fan of R&B music and there’s an R&B performer named India Arie, so maybe that’s it. But country is an important factor.
The actor grew up in nearby Twickenham after being born in nearby Kingston upon the River Thames. Her mother is of German descent, and her father is Ghanaian.
In the prequel, which focuses on Queen Charlotte’s rise to power, she takes on the title role. The series depicts how the young queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a cultural upheaval, helping to create the world of Ton that the residents of Bridgerton inherit.
Corey Mylchreest, who plays young King George III, and Amarteifio’s Queen Charlotte co-star were also at the Netflix Tudum event.
Tudum, named after the bell that plays before a Netflix movie or show begins, is the streaming service’s biggest annual event and a celebration of the company’s most iconic content . Returning to Brazil, where the original live Tudum event took place in 2020, this year’s global broadcast marks the event’s return to the country.
In this year’s global livestream event, broadcast from the park, Netflix expanded the three-day conference event held from June 16 to 18 at the Bienal in Ibirapuera Park (Parque do Ibirapuera) in Sao Paulo. Attendees got closer to their favorite celebrities in addition to enjoying more than 2,000 square feet of activities, games, live music, and more.
