Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Cast & Character Guide

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a prequel to the hit Netflix show and features younger versions of key characters and adds new cast members.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the prequel series to Netflix’s Bridgerton, features some of the main cast members from the original and adds new actors to play younger versions of the characters. The limited series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story focuses on the titular supporting character from the main series as she rises from a young princess to Queen of Great Britain and of Ireland. Queen Charlotte and King George III’s courtship and Charlotte’s journey through English court life serve as the main plot. As a newcomer to England and the royal court, Charlotte contends with scheming advisors and nobles all vying for palace prominence.

Set during the Regency era of England, the main Bridgerton series follows the title family as they navigate London high society. The show’s second season broke viewership records (via Variety), and its huge success led to the prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which takes place mostly in the past with young actors playing characters from the main series. It also jumps back and forth through time, so the cast from the main show appears as well. Here’s a guide to the Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story characters, the actors cast in each role, including both younger and older actors, and what else each is known for.

Golda Rosheuvel & India Ria Amarteifio As Queen Charlotte
The eponymous protagonist of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the stately and tragic Queen Charlotte, is played by the Bridgerton cast member Golda Rosheuval in flash-forwards and India Ria Amarteifio in her younger years. Rosheuval was brought to national attention in Bridgerton in her supporting role as the tastemaker of London. She appears in minor roles in EastEnders and Lady Macbeth and plays Shadout Mapes in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Amarteifio’s first major role comes in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Her career previously consisted of supporting and recurring parts in television shows and plays. She played the recurring character Nora Randall in seven episodes of the British sci-fi series The Midwich Cuckoos, and she portrayed Violet Beauregarde in the 2013 stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Adoja Andoh & Arsema Thomas As Lady Danbury

Lady Danbury returns for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and the older version is played by Adoja Andoh from the main series cast while the younger version of the sharp-tongued high-ranking lady of London society is played by Arsema Thomas. Andoh appears in a number of British television series, including supporting and recurring roles in shows like Casualty, Doctor Who, and Broadchurch. Her movie roles include Brenda Mazibuko in Invictus.

The young version of Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is the fourth role for Arsema Thomas. Her first movie role was in the 2022 Christian Romance movie Redeeming Love as the supporting character Rebecca. The Bridgerton prequel marks the first time the American actress has been exposed to a wide audience.

Ruth Gemmell & Connie Jenkins-Grieg As Dowager Viscountess Violet Bridgerton / Violet Ledger
The mother of the Bridgerton clan in the main series and an underrated Bridgerton character overall returns with Queen Charlotte. Violet Bridgerton, or Violet Ledger as she was known before her marriage, is played by Ruth Gemmell as the older version of the character and Connie Jenkins-Grieg as the younger. Jenkins-Grieg was cast in her first major role as the young Violet. Before this, she appeared in minor roles in movies like The Kid Who Would Be King and Solitary.

Gemmell is a prolific film, television, and stage actor who has played supporting roles in significant shows like EastEnders, Utopia, and Penny Dreadful. She was brought to mainstream attention when she was cast alongside Colin Firth in the 1997 movie Fever Pitch as Sarah Hughes.

Hugh Sachs & Sam Clemmett As Brimsley
In Queen Charlotte, Hugh Sachs and Sam Clemmett are cast respectively as the older and younger versions of Brimsley, a type of servant typical of the regency era of Bridgerton. Brimsley is Queen Charlotte’s right hand and a source for much of the court’s gossip in the series. Sachs is a staple of British television and plays a recurring role on the sitcom Benidorm as Gavin Ramsbottom, and he briefly appears in Rome, Casualty, and Endeavor, among many other series.

Clemmett made a name for himself when he portrayed Albus Severus Potter in the London and New York City runs of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Beyond his stage roles, he appears as Yuri in Cherry, the crime drama from Joe and Anthony Russo.
