Your favorite show might look a bit different when it resumes later this year: The new fall TV season isn’t upon us yet, but it’s already making waves with numerous big cast exits and returns.
Several stars across Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Fire Country, Elsbeth and more primetime shows won’t be back as series regulars next season, much to fans’ dismay. Some departures, like 9-1-1‘s Peter Krause, are deadly permanent, but a couple of actors are expected to at least pop in as guest stars to give closure to their characters’ stories.
While there will be noticeable absences when the 2025-26 TV season kicks off, viewers can also take comfort in the fact that a few fan favorites are set to make their full-time returns on SVU and the One Chicago franchise (which is expected to welcome back an OG star).
Then there are the cast members whose futures are unknown, thanks to life-or-death finale cliffhangers. If you thought NCIS: Origins‘ Lala was for sure a goner, well, think again. And get ready for a looong summer as we wait with baited breath to find out her fate and that of FBI‘s Isobel and Grey’s Anatomy’s Link.
And it’s not just broadcast shows that are undergoing cast changes: A couple of returning streaming hits are also saying goodbye to characters.
