‘Pizza Without Rules’: Gordon Ramsay Brings ‘Bottomless’ Slice Concept to the U.S.

At his celebrated London chain, Street Pizza, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay goes by the motto, “Pizza Without Rules.” But will that brand of culinary anarchy fly in a U.S. city where legislators lay down the law every day?

We’re about to find out as Street Pizza’s first location gets ready to open in Washington, D.C. on June 12.

Just weeks after whipping up an outlandish breakfast pizza topped with baked beans and black pudding in a controversial YouTube video, Ramsay is making industry news again with Street Pizza. It’s the first U.S. location for the chain, which offers all-you-can-eat slices for one price and has seven stores in London.

The “bottomless” concept was originally projected to open in the winter of 2022, as The Washingtonian reported in May of that year. But the Washington Business Journal later noted that Ramsay’s company didn’t acquire all the necessary permits to build out the space until July 2023.

According to the new restaurant’s website, specialty pizzas on the menu will include a classic Margherita; the ‘Nduja (spicy ‘nduja, mozzarella and basil); the Corn & Chorizo (sweet corn puree, spicy chorizo, roasted chicken, mozzarella, scallions and cilantro); the Mumbo 5 (creamy mumbo sauce, fried chicken, mozz, red onion, scallions and cilantro); and the vegetarian Charred Eggplant (garlic and basil pesto and pine nuts).

In a nod to American tastes, Street Pizza will also pile on the pineapple, plus a mornay sauce, applewood-smoked bacon and mozzarella, for one of the pies. Apparently the kitchen staff has kept it a secret from Ramsay. It’s called Don’t Tell Gordon.

“We never count the slices in London,” Ramsay told The Washingtonian. “Most of the time guests are having a great time with friends and family and honestly forget how many they’ve consumed.”
