Penny Hofstadter’s Comeback? Kaley Cuoco Opens Up About Revisiting Big Bang Theory

When The Big Bang Theory wrapped up its 12-season run in 2019, many fans thought it marked the end of Kaley Cuoco’s journey as Penny Hofstadter, the Nebraska-born dreamer who captured hearts with her humor and charm. But now, Cuoco has shared her thoughts on stepping back into her iconic role—and fans have reason to be excited.

Speaking with People on October 19, Cuoco was asked about the upcoming Big Bang Theory spinoff. With recent announcements of Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus reprising their roles as Stuart Bloom, Bert Kibbler, and Denise, the idea of Cuoco returning as Penny seems more plausible than ever.

Reflecting on her time with the show, Cuoco said, “I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had… I would absolutely reprise that role.”

For longtime fans, this is thrilling news. Penny’s journey from a small-town Nebraskan waitress aspiring to be an actress to a successful pharmaceutical sales representative was a cornerstone of the series. Her on-and-off relationship with Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), eventual marriage, and close friendships with Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette Wolowitz (Melissa Rauch) made her a vital part of the show’s charm and heart.

While nothing is confirmed regarding Cuoco’s involvement in the spinoff, her enthusiasm for the role is evident. However, she remains busy with other projects. Cuoco is currently enjoying life as a mom to her daughter, Matilda, whom she shares with her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey. She’s also gearing up for the season 2 premiere of her Peacock sitcom, Based on a True Story, set to release on November 21.

For fans, the idea of Penny’s return is tantalizing. Whether or not she officially reprises her role, it’s clear that Cuoco holds her Big Bang Theory years close to her heart.
