Part 2 To the Moon, Alice! Surprising Secrets About the Cast of ‘The Honeymooners’

Next Art Carney as Ed Norton

Art Carney played the lovable and eccentric Ed Norton, Ralph’s best friend and upstairs neighbor. Norton worked as a sewer worker and was known for his signature bowler hat and unique style. Carney’s portrayal of Ed was perfect, bringing a sense of innocence and charm to the character that made him an integral part of the show’s success. His friendship with Ralph Kramden was the heart of the show and their interactions provided some of the series’ most memorable moments.

Throughout his famous life, Carney appeared in a variety of films including The Fabulous Irishman in 1957, Call Me Back in 1960 and in 1974, he won an Oscar for his role in Harry and Tonto. Although he is best known for his work on The Honeymooners, he also made guest appearances on a number of television shows, including Star Trek, The Defenders, and All in the Family. He was no stranger to Broadway either. Among his most notable roles was Neil Simon’s 1965 comedy The Odd Couple, in which he played the extremely neat Felix Unger to Walter Matthau’s slovenly Oscar Madison.

Norton died in 2003 at the age of 85.
