Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers from the recent One Chicago crossover event.
The long-awaited One Chicago crossover delivered three hours of heart-pounding drama, action, and emotional moments—none more shocking than Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt’s (Amy Morton) near-fatal encounter. Throughout the intense episodes, Trudy was left fighting for her life after being shot multiple times, “dying” repeatedly on the operating table before making a miraculous recovery.
A Deadly Explosion and a Shocking Attack
The crossover kicked off with Chicago Fire, as Firehouse 51 responded to a devastating gas explosion in a public building. Under the command of Chief Pascal (Dermot Mulroney), Squad 3 and Truck 81 worked to evacuate victims and determine the cause of the blast. It didn’t take long for Chicago P.D.’s Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) to uncover a terrifying truth—the explosion was a planned attack. The discovery of oxygen tanks confirmed their worst fears.
As the investigation unfolded, Trudy Platt found herself in the middle of the chaos. While chasing the suspects, she was ambushed and shot—twice. She managed to radio for help before collapsing, sending her husband, Lieutenant “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte), and Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) into a frantic search to find her.
An Experimental Procedure Saves Trudy’s Life
Mouch was the first to find his gravely injured wife, a heartbreaking moment made even more painful by the fact that they had been arguing earlier—he had forgotten her birthday, assuming she wanted to celebrate his promotion instead. Despite his earlier attempts to apologize, Trudy had brushed him off, unaware of the life-threatening ordeal that lay ahead.
Rushed to Gaffney Medical, Trudy was placed in the hands of Dr. Ripley (Luke Mitchell) and Dr. Lennox (Sarah Ramos). Her condition quickly deteriorated—she coded multiple times, forcing Lennox to take a bold risk. In an untested procedure, Lennox cooled Trudy’s body to slow blood loss and buy time for surgery.
The gamble was a terrifying one. As Mouch anxiously watched from the sidelines, Trudy “died” several times on the operating table before finally stabilizing. When Voight arrived to check on her, Lennox confirmed the risky procedure had worked. Against all odds, Trudy had survived.
Back to Business—Even From a Hospital Bed
Despite her near-death experience, Trudy wasn’t about to rest. As soon as she woke up, she provided Voight with a crucial lead—a keycard to the Crescent Moon Hotel, a major break in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Mouch, torn between staying by his wife’s side and doing his job, was ordered by Trudy herself to get back to work. He returned to the scene to help rescue Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Ruzek, and other victims trapped in a collapsed tunnel.
When Mouch finally made it back to the hospital, he found Trudy already complaining about her upcoming months of rehabilitation. In classic Trudy fashion, she wasn’t happy about it. Mouch, relieved to have her back, couldn’t resist joking: “Is there something you can give her for the attitude?”
The One Chicago crossover was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Trudy Platt’s survival standing out as one of the most dramatic moments of the night.
