One Chicago fans, brace yourselves—Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. are about to take yet another break this February.
Following the massive success of the One Chicago crossover event, which delivered season-high ratings, many expected NBC to keep the momentum going with back-to-back new episodes. However, the network has other plans.
When Will One Chicago Take a Break?
NBC recently announced its primetime lineup for the upcoming weeks, confirming that all three One Chicago shows will air new episodes on February 5. But after that, they’ll be put on pause—reruns will air on February 12, with no new episodes scheduled that night.
What remains unclear is how long this break will last. Since NBC has only released its schedule through the week of February 10, it’s uncertain whether this is just a one-week hiatus or if fans should prepare for a longer break.
The good news? The length of the hiatus should be confirmed when NBC drops the promo for Episode 13. These teasers typically include the exact return date, so fans should keep an eye out for that update.
Why Does One Chicago Take a February Break?
It’s not uncommon for One Chicago shows to take a midseason pause in February. NBC has scheduled at least one break during this month every year since 2020, though the length of these breaks has varied.
Here’s a look at past February breaks:
- 2023: The shows took just one week off before returning.
- 2021 & 2022: The breaks were longer, with only one new episode airing in February before returning later in the month.
Why does NBC do this? It’s all about spreading out the season. Since most network TV shows air 18-22 episodes from September to May, they need to space them out with breaks to avoid running out of new content too soon.
How to Keep Watching One Chicago During the Break
While a break is never fun, there’s still plenty for fans to enjoy. All past episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. are available to stream on Peacock, making it the perfect time for a rewatch or to catch up on any episodes you may have missed.
Even though the break is coming, at least we know we’re getting one new episode on February 5—so mark your calendars and stay tuned for updates on when the shows will return!
