It’s official: Tracker Season 2 has managed to deliver three straight weeks of impressive guest stars, with the highly anticipated return of Justin Hartley’s wife Sofia Pernas in Episode 3. After back-to-back appearances by Manifest’s Matt Long and Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles, Pernas returned in the third episode of Season 2 as Billie Matalon, Colter’s (Harley) rival and ex-lover.
In an interesting twist, the eventful episode also featured Better Call Saul’s Patrick Fabian. But since Pernas and Hartley are married in real life, their obvious chemistry ended up stealing the show.
“We love working together,” Hartley told Decider ahead of the Season 2 premiere. “We talk to each other all the time at home. I always say things to her like, ‘I’m thinking this,’ ‘I don’t know this character,’ and ‘Am I reading this wrong?’ She does the same. We always talk about everything, just like everything in life.”
In “Bloodlines,” Billie enlists Colter to help her find a missing high school baseball star from her hometown, and the two take their relationship to the next level—romantic! Don’t get me wrong, they’re super hot when they’re looking at each other at bars and easily slip A+ flirtation into casual conversations, but their true feelings shine brightest in their honest moments.
As the two trackers go their separate ways to investigate, the desire to see each other again becomes almost a distraction. (Thankfully, their phone calls are also hot!) As they take up arms and stealthily search for missing people, Tracker becomes a more subdued, survivalist—but still incredibly sexy—version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. And when Colter finally rescues Billie and holds her bleeding head in his hands for an autopsy, viewers are reminded that there’s still genuine tenderness and care between them.
It’s not every day you get to watching couples act together in such unique, well-matched roles, so hopefully we haven’t seen the last of this dynamic this season. Every time Billie appears, she manages to raise the stakes and turn up the heat. We have just one request: Next time it’s Colter’s turn to dig in. (And a kiss wouldn’t hurt, either!) Elsewhere, the one in the most danger this episode is Billie. From asking Colter for help and admitting that it’s nice to work with him again to opening up about her difficult childhood and personal family tragedy, she brings a fascinating new level of intimacy to their relationship that will have viewers craving more episodes together.
After Colter’s skeptical team advises him to be careful around Billie because of their complicated past, he definitely puts up some walls, but the more Billie lowers her walls, the more you can see Colter wanting to let her in.
