Oliver Stark Hints at ‘Clarity’ for Buck and Tommy in ‘9-1-1’ Season 8 Before Saying Goodbye

Despite being one of the defining arcs of 9-1-1 Season 7, Buck (Oliver Stark) and Tommy’s (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) relationship has yet to be explored in Season 8, in part because the season is busy with a three-episode opening arc. The pair are very much in the air this season, but their relationship hasn’t been explored so far. However, according to Stark, that’s set to change in the upcoming episodes. He spoke to Screen Rant about what’s ahead for 9-1-1’s newest couple, teasing the evolution of their relationship as they figure out who they are to each other and clarify where they stand.

“Yeah, [Tommy] in Episode 5, pretty much, and maybe, I’m going to say, support Buck through some tough times, but I don’t know if he’s always going to be helpful in this situation,” Stark began, previewing trouble for Buck and possibly Tommy. While it’s unclear what Buck is going through, some of his struggles are confusing to others, which could cause some shakeups in the otherwise perfect relationship. “He’s a little weird because of some of the things that are going on with Buck,” Stark added. He teased a deeper dive into that relationship in the next episode, saying, “And then in Episode 6, there’s a lot of clarity about where their relationship is at and a lot of truths learned about each other. I think it’s going to be a really great episode.”

The holiday-themed episodes are back after an atypical TV season last season. 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 5 is titled “Masks” and sees 118 people dealing with strange Halloween emergencies. After their family barely survives, Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) run into more trouble when a car runs through a party, and Denny (Declan Platt) is one of the victims. The episode focuses on Buck and may also feature some literal and figurative scares. He puts up some decorations, but according to the official logline below, they work a little better than he expected.

“118 is working once again on the spookiest night of the year and misses out on all the tricks and treats. Meanwhile, Buck’s Halloween decorations turn out a little scarier than he expected.”
