There is some disappointing news for The Rookie fans. There isn’t a new episode on tonight, Tuesday, May 28.
I wish I could say that was the worst of the news. This isn’t a short break. In fact, we won’t get a new episode of the series for the rest of this year. The previous episode was the season finale, and now we have to wait for Season 7.
In some good news, The Rookie Season 7 is officially happening. It’s just moving away from the fall schedule.
The Rookie Season 7 will return in 2025
ABC set the fall schedule, and surprisingly the Nathan Fillion cop drama was missing from it. The Rookie Season 7 will not kick off Tuesdays in the fall, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sure, it is worrying when fall shows move to the midseason, but it could be a good move in terms of consistency.
The move to the midseason allows for The Rookie to run episodes back to back throughout the season. There is no need for the winter break, and we won’t need breaks in the rest of the schedule as ABC times finales for May 2025. This is great for fans, as it means we can reliably tune in each week.
There’s no guarantee that the series will air on Tuesdays again, but that does make the most sense considering the success both The Rookie and Will Trent have had on the night.
So, when in 2025 can we expect The Rookie Season 7 to premiere? We’re looking at January at the earliest, but this will depend on the number of episodes planned for the season. Midseason shows tend to be around the 13-episode mark, which would suggest a March premiere date for May finales. However, ABC may still give this series 16 to 18 episodes, allowing for a January premiere date without breaks.
We’ll know more as we get into production season. ABC will also confirm more toward the end of 2024 as we get ready for the 2025 premieres.
