Netflix Is Pulling the Plug on Its ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Replacement — And Fans Are Not Happy

There’s nothing like a good medical series to binge-watch. What makes these shows so compelling is not only that it’s easy to relate to several events that happen inside a hospital, but also because it’s always amazing to see how a million cases can be so peculiar and unique to each patient. Unfortunately for medical series fans, though, one of the easiest binges on Netflix is leaving the platform soon — the streamer is removing The Resident by September 4.

The Resident is the perfect binge for those who want a good amount of episodes to watch but also don’t feel like committing to 15 or 20 seasons of television, which is the case with long-running shows like ER and Grey’s AnatomyThe Resident ran for a little more than a hundred episodes, and viewers got to follow the titular character, Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry, from Gilmore Girls and The Good Wife) evolve from a third-year resident to an attending physician. The series takes place inside the walls of the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

During its six-season run, The Resident received enough praise to land a decent Rotten Tomatoes score — the series’ overall performance landed at a 75% audience score, meaning that viewers were mostly happy with it. Back when it premiered, the show stood out due to its blunt approach to the flaws in the American healthcare system. At the same time, it came under fire from health professionals who called out inaccuracies in the medical procedures depicted in the series.

Why Did Emily VanCamp Leave ‘The Resident’?

Another event that might have contributed to the series’ cancellation after Season 6 was Emily VanCamp‘s (Revenge) abrupt exit after the end of Season 4. Back when her departure from the series was announced, VanCamp stated that nothing bad happened. She simply had reached a point in life where it became “less about work and more about family.” The actor told E! that she spent almost a year away from her family because she was filming in Atlanta, and this contributed to her decision to leave.
