Netflix Drops Surprise Bombshell: The ‘Yellowstone’ Alternative Everyone Binge-Watched Is Officially Over

Netflix is playing with Heartland fans’ hearts. Last month, the streamer announced that it was removing all 16 seasons of the wholesome drama series. However, the platform somehow managed to extend the show’s tenure on the catalog, but not for much longer. Once again, all seasons of Heartland are projected to be removed by the end of August. If indeed it happens this time, you have just a couple of weeks to binge-watch it.

Even though this is not the best scenario to start a series that has over 200 episodes, maybe the fact that it’s leaving is enough to make some viewers finally give it a chance and discover why this show has been on for so long. The series starts off by following two sisters who try to keep the family ranch profitable in Alberta. In case you are wondering, the sisters are still sticking with the series, and are still played by Amber Marshall (My Christmas Guide) and Michelle Morgan (Virgin River). The cast also features Shaun Johnston (Shadow of God), Chris Potter (X-Men ’97), Graham Wardle (Hudson), and Alisha Newton (My Life With the Walter Boys).

Heartland is the perfect series for those who got hooked on shows like Yellowstone or Netflix’s Ransom Canyon. It has you rooting for couples while caring about the future of the Flemings, but also with a bit of intrigue and moral dilemmas — but not as intense as Yellowstone, which makes a binge session lighter than the often gritty Taylor Sheridan series. Heartland also appeals to fans of heartwarming stories like Virgin River and Ginny and Georgia because of its tone and its focus on family relationships and friendship. The trailer below has no major spoilers but provides a pretty good idea of the tone of the entire series.

Where To Watch ‘Heartland’ After It Leaves Netflix

If Netflix indeed removes all seasons of Heartland by the end of August, not everything is lost. You will still be able to stream the entire series on UP Faith & Family — a platform you’d eventually have to migrate to anyway, because the newest seasons of the series are exclusive to it. Just recently, the platform promoted a watch party to unite fans in order to watch the Season 18 finale.

New and older Heartland fans can also be happy that the series is showing no signs of stopping. Season 19 is in production and, back in June, Canadian network CBC invited fans to take part as extras during filming of the series’ landmark 275th episode. The new season is set to premiere in Canada this fall.
