‘NCIS: Sydney’ Boss Shares an Exciting Season 3 Filming Update

Amid Season 2 of the NCIS spin-off based in the land down under, the series was renewed for another season, which has yet to get a premiere date. NCIS: Sydney returned with its sophomore season on Friday, February 7, and a few weeks later, it received a Season 3 order on February 21. Sadly, not much has been unveiled about the upcoming installment, but something new has recently come up regarding where in Australia the next season of the procedural will be filmed.

TVLine previously revealed that the NCIS offshoot would include a Sydney Opera House cameo in Season 3; an exciting one given that the building, located on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour, is widely regarded as one of the world’s most famous and distinctive. Showrunner Morgan O’Neill has now teased another “very Australian” destination for NCIS: Sydney Season 3, saying:

“Australia is a big-a** country. It’s almost as big as the U.S., and we have 25 million people [versus the United States’ 340 mil], so it’s sparsely populated and vast. So if I said to you that we’re going to head to the Outback [in Season 3], that probably wouldn’t surprise you.”

The Outback is a very remote part of Australia that is deeply ingrained in the country’s history. And with this new information, viewers can expect some interesting details about the country to be added to the next season of NCIS: Sydney. In the meantime, the procedural last aired on Friday, April 25, with the Season 2 grand finale, “Sting in the Tail,” directed by Kriv Stenders. In it, fans finally find out who has been behind the crime drama’s running thread all this time, including the unsuspecting person responsible for putting that pacemaker Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) didn’t need in him.

What Else Can Fans Expect in ‘NCIS: Sydney’ Season 3

A few days following the end of NCIS: Sydney Season 2, O’Neill hinted at a more intense Season 3 that would be “way bigger” and pick up a little further in the future, but not too far. He maintained that it would not be like the last installment, which had a “continuous pickup.” This unexpected development might have confused fans eager to know what would happen in Blue’s (Mavournee Hazel) apartment after Season 2 ended with her discovering a mysterious woman waiting for her there. The series boss further mentioned the possibility of some romance ahead, but not in the way fans anticipate, especially for DeShawn (Sean Sagar) and Evie (Tuuli Narkle). Also, the duo’s relationship will be tested by a new character whom O’Neill failed to share more details about.
