NCIS is on break for the Thanksgiving holiday, but the episode before the show went on a mini-hiatus featured Agent Tim McGee in a bit of a pickle. In the midst of dealing with an obsessed fan of his books, he was also abducted while working on a case.
The case involved the death of Navy Captain Seth Meyers, who was working with a team that was tasked with retrofitting planes that could be used by Russia to infiltrate Ukraine. The classified documents were missing, and it appeared at first that Meyers was planning to sell it.
At the same time, a fan of McGee’s books began to follow him around after meeting him at a book signing. She claimed to be his number one fan and seemed to know a lot about him. While at his book signing, McGee got a strange note on a flyer that read, “I know what you did,” along with an IP address.
How was McGee able to get through to his abductor?

McGee didn’t know where it came from, but dismissed it since it only led to the fan club website for him. He had a meeting with a book critic, but as he was leaving to go back to work, he became disoriented and was abducted.
When Parker got an update from Vance about the case, he was surprised to learn that McGee had called out to take care of his kids. Parker told Vance that it wasn’t possible since Delilah had taken the kids to visit their grandparents. They eventually found McGee’s car and learned from a witness that a woman had put him in a vehicle and driven it away.
Torres recognized the vehicle description as being the car he was looking for in a BOLO he put out. The only lead they have to go on is McGee’s obsessed fan, but she tells them in interrogation that she didn’t take McGee. She also had an alibi, filming her podcast as the abduction occurred.
McGee woke up in an attic on a mattress, with only the characters Soares and Knightshade from his books keeping him company. A woman, Kathy, had taken him, but she seemed to know nothing about his books or the investigation. Eventually, he got her to admit she needed help finding her son, Matthew Sheldon. She took McGee because no one else would listen to her pleas to find him.
There are some twists and turns on this McGee focused episode of NCIS

She gives McGee information to look at, including a photo of her son with Myers. They were best friends, and McGee thinks maybe he was part of the plan to steal the plans involving the planes. However, she is adamant that he would not do that, and when he talks about the hard drive with the information, she actually has it. McGee uses a laptop to get into an encrypted folder named “Ruby.”
What McGee learns from the documents is that Ruby was not a possible suspect, but the plane Matthew flew as a pilot. He was testing the technology with the drones when his plane crashed. This meant the project was a failure, and his friend Seth was going to blow the whistle. One of the people involved, Mark Daniels, didn’t want that to happen so he killed Seth before he could reveal the truth.
Matthew’s mother knew her son had died, but she developed grief psychosis. He was a fan of McGee’s books, and she knew he became a pilot because of him. She went to McGee for help due to this. Her brain was ultimately telling her she needed to rescue her son. Her grief was further strengthened when Seth was murdered, as he had been taking care of her after losing Matthew. McGee felt for her and helped her see that she did, in fact, help her son even if he was gone.
This episode was so fun to watch, seeing how McGee dealt with the situation he was in, even as he was stuck in a basement with only his thoughts to help him. Plus, even though the team wasn’t able to find him at first, they were still able to use all the clues they had to determine where he could be, even with help from his fan.
The episode also made sure to mention the investigation Jimmy Palmer was doing about Parker’s mother’s death. He discovered that the injuries she sustained were not consistent with an accident. This means her death was likely due to another cause, and now Jimmy has to tell Parker about the investigation. Only time will tell how Parker takes this news.
Fans will be able to watch the next episode of NCIS on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when the show returns with “God Only Knows.” The episode will follow the team’s investigation into a missing teenager and the connection with a Navy SEAL who had been held captive in Afghanistan, but may have been involved in a homicide back home. Plus, it also looks like Jimmy will tell Parker about what he discovered about his mother’s death.
