NCIS Star Teases JAG Reboot Possibility — And It All Hinges On One Man

The original NCIS show JAG could receive a reboot or revival, according to legacy star David James Elliott. The military legal drama first aired in 1995, and ran for ten years and more than 220 episodes before concluding in 2005 after JAG season 10. The show was hugely influential and spawned the smash-hit spinoff, NCIS.

NCIS has become a pop culture phenomenon since its debut in 2003. In February this year, NCIS season 23 was renewed and is set to debut this fall. NCIS has led to six spinoff shows, including NCIS: Origins. There has been speculation that JAG itself could be subject to a revival, and Elliott has weighed in on this possibility.

Per EW, Elliott discussed the chances of rebooting JAG for a modern audience, pointing out how creator Don Bellisario is still alive, meaning that this could be a viable option. He also stated that he would be interested in appearing in a reboot, but conceded this would be unlikely, with reboots tending to favor a new cast. Check out his comments:

I mean, there’s always a chance. Don Bellisario is still alive. I mean, it’s his 90th birthday coming up. Certainly I think it would be interesting. I would be down for it, but I don’t know if it involves me. You know those reboots, they go, ‘Yeah, thank you. We got new guys!’

Interest From An OG Star Is Often A Good Sign

Rebooting or reviving classic shows is something that has become more common in recent times, so there is the chance that a JAG reboot could potentially happen. The fact that Elliott has expressed an interest in it is not a bad sign. In an ideal situation, he would even be involved if JAG indeed gets rebooted.

Being able to generate interest and excitement in a JAG reboot would possibly require some support from original stars, and this is something Elliott could play a role in. Bellisario is not getting any younger, but the fact that he’s already revived one of his classic shows with the Quantum Leap reboot, suggests he might be open to the idea.

The Door Is Not Completely Closed, But Nothing Official Has Been Floated

Elliott himself might have expressed an interest in the show, but for JAG to get the reboot treatment, Bellisario would need to be on board. While he is almost 90, and still involved with NCIS, he may not have the time or inclination to explore the prospect of another reboot, even of one of his most influential and iconic shows.

A JAG revival or reboot in the future, but it would have to feel right for Bellisario, and there would need to be enough of a creative spark to be warranted. JAG was a fascinating and detailed show, and one that had a deep understanding of military code and legalities, and a reboot would need to understand this effectively as well.
