NCIS might be taking the summer off, but one member of its cast is looking to stay busy by booking an exciting new role on one of Netflix’s biggest new series!
Gary Cole, who plays NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Alden Parker on CBS’s hit crime drama, has joined the season 2 cast of Netflix’s Ted Danson-led comedy A Man on the Inside. Cole is among a wave of new cast members joining the show in its second seaso,n with fellow cast additions for season 2 including Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Max Greenfield, Sam Huntington, Madison Hu, Constance Marie, Jason Mantzoukas, Linda Park, David Strathairn, and Jill Talley.
Cole will be playing Brad Vinick, a successful businessman whose sizable donation to his alma mater ends up setting off a chain reaction which leads to the hiring of Charles, who goes undercover at the college. It sounds like Cole will play a key role in the upcoming second season, and we’re really excited to see him returning to comedy!
While NCIS fans know Cole for his pastry loving, by the books character, it can be easy to forget Cole has showcased his comedic chops in many amazing comedies including Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and lent his voice to several hit animated comedies including Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. Perhaps that’s because it’s been a bit since we’ve seen Cole appear in a live-action comedy series since his series regular role on ABC’s Mixed-ish.
The best part is that Cole’s role in A Man on the Inside will not have any direct impact on his role on NCIS! NCIS is on a break now that the season has wrapped and won’t return to production until late summer when work begins on season 23. Production on season 2 of A Man on the Inside officially began on May 9 and is expected to run through the summer, so it’s likely that Cole will wrap on the show before filming on NCIS season 23 even begins!
This also means that we’ll likely be getting a double-dose of Cole this fall, as it’s expected A Man on the Inside will premiere sometime in the final months of the year. Netflix has not announced a release date for season 2, but it has been confirmed that the breakout comedy will return in 2025. We’ll just have to wait to see whether the season arrives before the new season of NCIS kicks off this September or if the season will end up releasing in the fall during NCIS season 23 – which seems like the most likely option.
