Sean Murray has been portraying Special Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS since 2003, and he says Season 23 has brought some of the most exciting storytelling he’s experienced in years.
The latest episode, “Page-Turner” (Season 23, Episode 6), dives into McGee’s novels under his pen name, Thom E. Gemcity. In a creative twist, the cast takes on dual roles, portraying both their regular NCIS characters and the fictional personas from McGee’s Deep Six series. “It was the most fun I’ve had on an episode in quite a while,” Murray shared, noting the challenge and joy of playing McGee and his alter ego, McGregor, alongside his fellow cast members in their book-world counterparts.

The episode also ends on a major revelation: Jimmy Palmer uncovers that Parker’s mother’s death may not have been accidental. Murray teases that this storyline will continue in upcoming episodes, gradually revealing more secrets about Parker’s past.
Beyond “Page-Turner,” Murray hints at big surprises ahead, including unexpected family news for McGee. He also gives fans hope for the 500th episode of NCIS, teasing appearances from familiar faces who haven’t been seen in years. “We’ve got some really good stuff coming up,” he says. “The 500th episode is going to be pretty incredible.”
With renewed energy on set and storylines that push characters in new directions, Murray says Season 23 is proving to be one of the most dynamic of his 22-year run. NCIS fans can look forward to both thrilling twists and deeper character exploration in the episodes to come.
