CBS’ NCIS: Origins is moving forward with Season 3 — but without one of its key creative voices. Gina Lucita Monreal, co-showrunner of the NCIS prequel, is set to exit the series at the end of Season 2 after helping launch the show. The series was recently renewed early, underscoring its strong performance for the network.
Monreal, a longtime NCIS veteran, spent a decade writing and producing on the flagship series before leaving in 2021 to work on projects including Hulu’s Paradise and Netflix’s Griselda. She later returned to the franchise to co-create NCIS: Origins alongside fellow franchise alum David J. North.
North will remain with the series and serve as sole showrunner going into Season 3. CBS praised Monreal’s contributions, emphasizing that the creative foundation she helped build will continue to shape the show’s future as it explores the early life of Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
