NCIS: Los Angeles Star Eric Christian Olsen Rules Out Franchise Return md14

Fans of NCIS: Los Angeles may have to say goodbye for good to Special Agent Marty Deeks. Eric Christian Olsen, who played Deeks across all 14 seasons, recently confirmed he has no interest in returning to the role.

Speaking at a press event for CBS’s new series Matlock, which Olsen executive produces, he explained that while he keeps in touch with former co-stars, he’s ready to move on. “I find myself not so much wanting to play Deeks again,” Olsen admitted, noting his excitement for creating new stories behind the camera.

NCIS: Los Angeles, which premiered in 2009 as the first NCIS spinoff, ended in May 2023 after 14 successful seasons. The action-packed series followed agents Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and Grisha Callen (Chris O’Donnell) tackling military-related crimes, becoming the franchise’s second-longest-running show.

Though Olsen won’t be reprising Deeks, the NCIS universe continues to expand. Mark Harmon is set to appear in the upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins, exploring Gibbs’ early career at NIS Camp Pendleton. The series promises narration from Harmon, a younger Gibbs portrayed by Austin Stowell, and fresh storytelling for loyal fans.

Season 22 of the original NCIS premieres on CBS on October 14, keeping the franchise alive even as fan-favorite actors take on new paths.
