Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star in the next spinoff set in the “Yellowstone” universe, directed by creator Taylor Sheridan.
The show, called “The Madison,” will star Pfeiffer, 66, who will also serve as an executive producer.
The show’s previous working title was “2024.” The story will follow a New York City family in the Madison River Valley of central Montana.
According to Paramount, the show is “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection.”

“Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who infuses every role with emotional depth, authenticity and grace. She is the perfect anchor for the latest chapter in the ‘Yellowstone’ universe, ‘The Madison,’ from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan,” Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and chairman and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement Thursday.
“Suits” stars Patrick J. Adams and Kurt Russell are also rumored to be in talks to co-star, but no formal deals have been announced for them.
“Yellowstone” follows the lives of wealthy rancher John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his grown children, including Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and his son-in-law, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
It was previously reported that McConaughey might join the sequel, but a deal was never officially announced. McConaughey’s future in the “Yellowstone” universe remains unclear. The Post has reached out to his reps for comment.
It’s also possible that “Yellowstone” stars Reilly, Hauser, and Grimes could reprise their roles and join him in the series, though that has never been officially confirmed either.
“Yellowstone” had several other spinoffs, including “1883,” starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott, and “1923,” starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
Sheridan has been embroiled in several public feuds with his co-stars. Kevin Costner left “Yellowstone” under a cloud of rumors and accusations that he did not prioritize the series over his film work, which he denied.
Costner said in May, referring to “Yellowstone” producers and Sheridan, “I’ve been beaten to a pulp by those bastards, and a lot of the time I know why.”
Sheridan told the Hollywood Reporter in June 2023 of his feud with Costner, “He and the network were arguing about when he could finish ‘Yellowstone.’ I said, ‘We can definitely work out a schedule around [the date he wanted to leave],’ and we did.”
Sheridan added, “Once the lawyers get involved, people stop talking to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and trying to shift blame based on how the press or the public reacts.”
In June, Costner officially confirmed that he would not return to the film, instead focusing on making the Western “Horizon: An American Saga.” The first of four films received poor reviews, and the sequel will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Costner told the Hollywood Reporter at the time, referring to “Yellowstone,” “It was a necessary decision to say, ‘Hey, okay, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It’s time to move on.’”
The “Dances With Wolves” star also responded to his fans in an Instagram video about the matter.
“I just wanted to reach out and let you guys know that after a year and a half of working on Horizon and doing everything that needed to be done,” Costner said at the time.
“Thinking about Yellowstone, the beloved series that I love, that I know you love. I just realized that I won’t be able to continue, season five or in the future.”
He added, “I love it and I know you love it. I just want to let you know that I won’t be coming back. I love the relationships that I’ve been able to develop. And I’ll see you at the movies.”
Sheridan’s farm has also sued the coffee brand of “Yellowstone” star Hauser.
The Post has reached out to “Yellowstone” representatives for comment.
The new show does not yet have an official premiere date, but is expected to debut in 2025.
The second half of the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” will premiere Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network.
