Before Melissa Rauch became a fan favorite as the sharp, no-nonsense Bernadette Rostenkowski on The Big Bang Theory, she was just an actress hoping for a break—and feeling terrified to step onto one of the biggest sitcoms on television.
“When I joined, I was extremely nervous,” Melissa admitted in interviews. And for good reason. The show was already a cultural phenomenon, with millions of viewers and a tight-knit core cast. Adding a new face into that mix—even for a few episodes—felt like a massive leap.
But that wasn’t the only reason for her nerves. At the time, Melissa was facing real-life struggles that many actors know all too well. She had been doing rounds at the unemployment office and begging her agents to help her find any work. “I was at a point where I just needed a job,” she said.
