We were not prepared for the fight that went down between Carly and Nina during the Monday, May 19 episode of General Hospital. A slap, maybe, but not a full-on smackdown. While nobody condones violence, this throwdown was years in the making. The animosity between these two formidable characters was only going to end up in a tussle of epic proportions despite the shaky alliance they forged to extract Drew out of Willow and their grandkids’ lives. Shortly after this catfight for the ages, GH’s social media people released a couple of photos. They spotlighted two women who helped bring this clash of the titans to life.
Behind the Scenes Look
Nina couldn’t believe Carly (Laura Wright) pushed Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow’s divorce/custody case to trial before Michael even healed from his extensive burns. Carly was done with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). She didn’t want her grandkids anywhere near Drew (Cameron Mathison). And she would do anything to remove them from their current situation.
Even though Carly was right on the money for wanting to ensure Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia (Sequoia & Serenity Mork Macko) were nowhere near Drew, this was drastic even for her. But then she kept calling Nina and Willow bad mothers, and Nina just had it. She you-know-what slapped Carly, who responded in kind. And then they went after each other.
Obviously, the actresses were saved from doing everything, considering Nina and Carly had to tumble over a couch and go after each other’s throats. Two veteran stunt women were called on to don blonde wigs and the exact same clothes as Wright and Watros’s characters and handled the more challenging parts of the fight.
Social Media Spotlight
GH’s social media team released a couple of photos taken on the day of taping. One photo was a straight-up image of the four women smiling. Heather Bonomo and Kara Smith were the stunt women on hand. The second image featured more of a fun photo where the Ninas and the Carlys put their dukes up, so to speak.
The message for fans spotlighted how creating the magic of daytime takes a village. “Nina and Carly’s battle royale wouldn’t have been possible without the expertise of stunt performers @bonomomoto (Carly) and Kara Smith (Nina). Please help us give them all a round of applause for making today’s all-new #GH that much more dramatic. 👏👏👏 @watros.watros @welcometolaurasworld #BehindtheScenes #GeneralHospital.”Bonomo was Wright’s stunt double. Her list of stunt credits includes the TV shows Grey’s Anatomy, The Orville, and 1923, as well as the movie Twisters. On several episodes of GH, she acted as stunt coordinator and stunt doubled for Maura West (Ava) in an episode.
Meanwhile, Smith, who was Watros’s stunt double, has doubled for actresses Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kathleen Quinlan, and Rosanna Arquette in addition to Watros. Her small screen credits include 911, 911: Lone Star, and Big Sky.
One fan, who commented on GH’s official post, spoke for all of us when she said, “Great scene as always. I wondered how they shot that scene!!! Did you laugh quite a bit??? You are all at the top of your craft. SO good. SO clever!!!:
