Meet the Cast of Boston Blue: The Stars of the Blue Bloods Spinoff

Get ready, Blue Bloods fans—CBS is expanding the Reagan universe with a brand-new spinoff! Boston Blue is set to premiere in fall 2025 and will bring fresh faces, familiar family ties, and all the emotional and procedural drama you’ve come to expect. The new series follows Danny Reagan as he transitions from NYPD to Boston PD, and several major cast members have already been announced.

Here’s a breakdown of who’s joining Boston Blue and what you can expect from the cast so far.

Donnie Wahlberg Returns as Danny Reagan

Blue Bloods veteran Donnie Wahlberg is back, reprising his iconic role as Danny Reagan. This time, though, Danny is trading New York City for Boston. While the reason behind Danny’s move hasn’t been revealed just yet, Wahlberg has confirmed that the spirit of the Reagan family will still be deeply rooted in his character.

“If he’s a Reagan, it’ll never be just Danny,” Wahlberg shared in a May 2025 interview with Fox News Digital. “There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

Wahlberg, a proud Boston native, is especially excited to film the series in his hometown.

“First of all, I’m a proud Bostonian,” he told Morning MAGIC in April 2025. “I love the city. I love coming back every chance I get, and I will love filming there.”

Sonequa Martin-Green Joins as Lena Silver

Sonequa Martin-Green, best known for her roles in The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Discovery, will star as Lena, Danny’s new partner at Boston PD. Lena is the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family in the city and brings her own legacy to the table.

“It’s a big deal to come into this legacy,” Martin-Green said in a May 2025 interview with Extra. “With this man [Wahlberg], and everything he’s accomplished… it’s an honor to be part of this next chapter.”

Her presence promises to bring new energy to the series, while also honoring the familial themes that made Blue Bloods so beloved.

Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters

Legendary actor Ernie Hudson is joining the cast as Reverend Peters, a respected pastor at a historic Baptist church in Boston. Reverend Peters is the father of Boston’s District Attorney, Mae Silver, and grandfather to Lena, Superintendent Ashley Silver, and rookie officer Isaac Silver.

Hudson’s character will add both spiritual wisdom and family drama to the series—an exciting parallel to the moral guidance Frank Reagan brought to Blue Bloods.

Fans will recognize Hudson from iconic roles in Ghostbusters, Oz, Miss Congeniality, St. Elsewhere, and more.

What’s Next for Boston Blue?

With filming expected to begin later this year, CBS is setting the stage for Boston Blue to carry the torch from Blue Bloods. While no full trailer or premiere date has been announced yet, anticipation is building quickly. Between the familiar charm of Donnie Wahlberg and the fresh dynamic introduced by Martin-Green and Hudson, Boston Blue is shaping up to be a must-watch.

Will other members of the Reagan family make guest appearances? Will Boston offer the same Sunday dinner-style heart as New York? We’ll be watching closely.
