Phone Tree Alert — Virgin River Season 6 Welcomes Two Very Important New Residents. Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr will join the series in flashbacks as Sarah and Everett, aka Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, when they met and fell in love in the 1970s.
What else is happening this season? Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith may give us a hint about what’s next for Mel, Jack (Martin Henderson), and the rest of the small-town crew.
Check out a new photo of Breckenridge and Henderson back on set below, and read on for more on Sarah, Everett, and the other new cast members in Season 6. What’s in store for Virgin River Season 6?
If there’s one thing Smith can promise, it’s that “babies and wedding bells will never be off the table in Virgin River.”
“Mel and Jack will move forward in their parenting journey while also turning Lilly’s farm into their ultimate dream home,” he told Tudum. As fans who watched the Season 5 finale know, Mel and Jack have decided to purchase the property.
Season 6 will take place a few months after the Christmas-themed episodes of Season 5. When we return to our favorite town, it will be “deeper into spring,” Smith said. Since spring is known for being a time of growth and change, there will be plenty of surprises in store for our favorite characters.
As writer and producer Richard Keith told Tudum in 2022 about the series, “Yes, the characters go through some pretty terrible things, but there’s always a happy ending. Maybe it’s not the happy ending they were hoping for, but they find their way to a happy place, which in some ways might be happier than if they ended up where they thought they were going to be in the first place.” Rothe (Happy Death Day) joins the cast as Sarah, the younger version of Mel’s mother. Appearing in flashbacks set mostly around 1972, Sarah is a witty, free-spirited girl from the big city with a strong passion for activism, who is trying to avoid the conventional and traditional life of a young woman in the 70s. Always up for an adventure, she can’t help but pursue a chance spark with a handsome musician who may be her ill-fated soul mate.
That soul mate may be Everett, played by Callum Kerr (ONE PIECE). Everett is currently played by John Allen Nelson, but Kerr will be playing a younger version of the character in the 70s. Everett is a handsome and free-spirited singer-songwriter with the soul of a poet. One day he’ll pursue his stage dreams, but for now, he’s drifting through life in a VW van, until a chance encounter with a beautiful hitchhiker might show him there’s more to life than he ever thought possible.
Set against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic wedding season, Season 6 promises fresh twists, escalating love triangles, wedding romances, and secrets from Mel’s father’s past, taking us into the magic and mystery of Virgin River in the 1970s.
Breckenridge and Henderson will continue to lead this cozy drama, with Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Mark Ghanimé, Kai Bradbury and Kandyse McClure also joining the cast.
Smith said you can expect some “new directions” for favorite characters like Preacher (Lawrence), Brady (Hollingsworth) and Kaia (McClure). “Brady will volunteer at the Virgin River Fire Station under Chief Kaia, who is caught up in Preacher’s past,” Smith said. “We’ll also be surprised this season by some past favorites returning.”
But there will also be at least one new face in town. “The new mystery character coming of age this season is Mel’s biological father, Everett Reid, who is carrying a long-held secret,” he said. John Allen Nelson plays Everett.
