Mayim Bialik’s The Big Bang Theory Return Comments Repeat Why The Show Ended In The First Place

While Mayim Bialik might be open to a return to The Big Bang Theory, her recent comments serve to remind viewers why the hit sitcom ended in the first place. By The Big Bang Theory’s finale, it was pretty clear who the show’s real main character was. When the series began back in 2007, the slow-burn romance between Johnny Galecki’s nerdy scientist and his glamorous neighbor, Kaley Cuoco’s Penny, was the main focus of The Big Bang Theory. However, although The Big Bang Theory’s entire cast of characters was funny, there’s a reason its first spinoff was Young Sheldon.

Jim Parsons’ Sheldon swiftly became the sitcom’s breakout character and, as the series continued, The Big Bang Theory began to focus more heavily on the comically obstinate physicist. Sheldon’s Nobel Prize ceremony dominated the action of the finale, and it was his speech thanking his family and friends that wrapped up the show’s twelve-season story. By the time the show ended, Sheldon was The Big Bang Theory’s de facto main character. As such, it was no surprise when viewers learned that Parsons was also the actor who decided when the show would end by moving on to new projects.

Jim Parsons’ Choice To Finish With The Big Bang Theory Shaped Its Finale

In Jessica Radloff’s 2022 book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, the writer outlines how Parsons’s decision resulted in mixed feelings among the rest of the cast. This was reaffirmed by Amy’s actor Mayim Bialik saying to Yahoo Entertainment that she would “Be super happy” to return to the show for a reunion. Bialik said that, with “All due respect to Jim,” she thought there were creatives and viewers alike who would like to see more from the Pasadena gang. Ironically, Bialik’s recent comments echo the reasoning behind The Big Bang Theory’s original ending.

While Bialik might argue that the world wants more from the gang in 2025, it seems that members of the sitcom’s cast have been saying this since Parsons originally announced he was done with the show.

Although Parsons did reprise the role of Sheldon for Young Sheldon’s finale, by all accounts, it was his decision to leave the original series that led to The Big Bang Theory’s finale. The Big Bang Theory could not continue without Parsons playing Sheldon and, while Bialik might argue that the world wants more from the gang in 2025, it seems that members of the sitcom’s cast have been saying this since Parsons originally announced he was done with the show. If it weren’t for Parsons, it is hard to know when the show’s stars would have called it quits.

Jim Parsons Already Returned To The Big Bang Theory Once – Don’t Count Out Another Sheldon Cameo
Sheldon’s Actor Seems Unlikely To Return Again

Since Parsons’ Sheldon appeared in Young Sheldon’s ending, and he played the show’s narrator throughout the spinoff’s seven seasons, viewers shouldn’t count on the actor reprising the role again anytime soon. Sheldon might be Parsons’ most famous role, but The Big Bang Theory’s upcoming spinoff is unlikely to see him don his iconic graphic tee again. After all, Parsons has always been clear about reaching the end of his journey with the characters, despite mixed responses from his co-stars. Thus, The Big Bang Theory’s star might not play Sheldon again for a long time, regardless of what Bialik says.
