Max Thieriot’s ‘SEAL Team’ Exit Looks to Be Working in His Favor
When news broke that Max Thieriot would be reprising his role as Clay Spenser on the Paramount+ series “SEAL Team” while also starring in a new CBS drama “Fire Country,” fans wondered how the actor would juggle both jobs at the same time. Their questions were answered midseason when Clay’s time with Bravo came to a tragic end and Thieriot had to work full-time on “Fire Country.” CBS gave the actor some good news when it announced that “Fire Country” had been renewed for a second season in the 2023-2024 season. “Fire Country” was created by Thieriot and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who appears likely to receive his first Oscar nomination as a producer on “Top Gun: Maverick.” The series follows Bode Donovan (Thieriot), a California inmate who volunteers for a prison firefighting program. Things take a strange turn when his team is sent to his hometown, a place he left under complicated circumstances with no plans of ever returning.
The show also stars Billy Burke (“The Twilight Saga”) as Bode’s dad and Diane Farr (“Numb3rs”) as his mom. Their Rocky brings a little “Yellowstone” family drama to the classic CBS procedural formula.
Audiences have responded to Thieriot’s show. It’s a solid ratings show, and it even beat “Blue Bloods” in total audience when it returns after the holidays on January 6, 2023. “Fire Country” isn’t a military show, but it’s a landing spot for the actor who played one of the most beloved characters on “SEAL Team,” one of the most popular military shows of all time. It’s nice to know that Thieriot’s exit from “SEAL Team” wasn’t because of a show that crashed and burned on impact. Clay Spenser may not be returning, but it looks like fans can watch Thieriot on Friday nights at 9 p.m. ET for years to come.
